Why the bad CSO then?

news 24 is in the world studio, the world studio used the national news studio but now they use a CSO

That doesn't really answer the question now, does it?
I can understand World moving to a CSO studio for the 1700 bulletin, but the National studio is free until 2200, so why have they stuck with the dodgy CSO? Please don't tell me that this is what News 24's home will look like for the next 6 weeks..

It's been there since all BBC World bulletins started using The World Today's music I belive.

Just to clear up the discussion on the plasma image - the one pictured above has been in use since BBC World went corporate in April 2000, and the animation bit is when they fade the plasma image to the early part of the closing titles.

I think that the CSO studio looks better than when they were in the national studio. It was too bright for my liking and distracting. If they used the normal backdrop it would be better. But honestly I don't know why they changed.

You can't tell it's a fake to the normal viewer.

Normal and CSO

And, as itsrobert said; the screen that says BBC News never animates -

this screen is part of the close.

I don't understand why the CSO is in 4:3, as on the split screen it is in widescreen - so why not continue into 14:9? Is it to do with the graphics?

the presenter looks a bit virtual there. eeek.

Anyone capable of watching both News 24 and BBC World this weekend will realise the obvious - you can't have two live programmes with different presenters coming out of the same studio - so one of them has to be a fake studio.

you've missed the point completely Rolling Eyes

the question was effectively - Why does World need to use the CSO set when it can use the BBC1 set and when BBC One has a bulletin it can join forces with News 24?

Sorry, but I don't see in my previous post any indication that I was answering that particular question. Rolling Eyes

and if they weren't part of the BBC brigade they might think that they have two studios that are the same.

I think the main reason (and I'm ony guessing) is that technology wise the national news studio isn't quite as advanced as the temp one for News 24. So if World stayed in the national news studio it would involve a lot of extra work like dubbing on to tape etc. But I don't know for sure.
Also I actually think the CSO looks quite good - although I only have the captures to go by.

Well I dont know what the point of your post was then - it wasnt in response to anything and it was utter garbage. Even more importantly, I thought you'd gone?

Thanks for that explanation Nicky - and don't lie about only having the captures - we all know you've got more streams than a river with all the BBC channels direct to you're place of residence from TVC Wink

The CSO effect doesn't seem to be too bad - it's the lighting that's the problem. Get that sorted and I think we'd be hard pressed to tell the difference! Very Happy

So if N24 is going 'virtual' tomorrow, it'll mean they've got two sets of studios stored. I can just imagine a newsreader reading a story and the backdrop suddenly flips from N24 to World studio Laughing

Yes I agree, I guess it's not a bad job, just very dark looking, i'll have a look at 8 this evening, hopefully when N24 use it, the lighting will be better.

And another interesting point is it's in 4:3, I wonder why this is the case, will N24 be 4:3 as well??
