IMHO, the director shouldn't press that button at all, as the N24 astons are s*it!

For god's sake, shut up about how crap BBC News 24 is and how superior BBC World is! Does it really matter? Most people who are in Britain do not watch BBC World and so cannot compare it to News 24. They're not complaining about the quality of the news studios and astons, they just complain about the news quality!

Apart from the fact that this is a presentation forum, and therefore it's only right to make remarks about TV pres Wink

so yes bchow - the current studio used for BBC World bulletins is a temporary situation. The usual set is being used by the BBC's UK News channel can use it whilst a temporary studio is bing errected for a 6 week period, whilst a new set is contructed for BBC News 24...

I still dont get why it will take 6 weeks to build. Have they got cowboy builders or something? There must be some proper structural work involved if it takes that long.

Perhaps there is some work going on in the main newsroom related to the new studio. Working in small bursts over 6 weeks would have the set ready and tested, without causing too much disruption to the day to day operation of BBC News.

Perhaps one of the BBC News staff members could give us some hints as to what is being planned...

There is going to be a complete overhaul of the dodgy air conditioning system.

Probably not. News 24 will most likely be moving to a spare studio with the old set for a few weeks.

Automatic astons are not so much a problem as they will remain in a particular style until forced into another style.

Hi,

I just realized why BBC World''s ashton does not touch all the way to the bottom. I was watching BBC World on CBC Newsworld (a Canadian version of BBC World), and CBC Newsworld uses the gap from the ashton to the bottom of the scrren to run a headline ticker.

There is serious gallery work going on as well as major technical changes, ie where people, journalists, technical bods sit - so lots to do - plus the idea is to have some time - a week maybe 2, to pilot on the new set with both technical staff and presenters.

Why wasn;t the temporary set built while they were still in the News 24 studio, and they swap straight from that to the temp set? Why move to the World studio while the temp set is being built? Unless they need to use things from the N24 studio in the temp set... surely that wouldnt take two days to move that stuff

I would guess it's because there is a lot of techical equipment in the exising News 24 studio - that is needed in their temporary home - hence the need for a move to the World Studio while that kit is plummed into thier temporary home.
