I've just read a thread in the Requests forum which suggested that both the News 24 and World music is changing tomorrow. I know that News 24's music is changing, but has it been confirmed about World? News 24's had the same music since 1999, and World's ident music has been in use since 2000 so I could understand these being updated, but the actual news music has only existed on air since 2002, so it seems a little early to be changing it again.

God it's all so Minority Report.

I wonder if a presenter will put some gloves on and start waving his arms around like a freak..?

Can't remember who first suggested it, but I like the desk lighting up red when a breaking news event occurs.

You could have the entire studio and graphics set turning red, then the camera pulls out to show the entire newsroom, followed by a tracking shot of the presenter walking through to the various correspondents to show how up-to-the-minute it all is, complete with Douglas Hurd (standing by), SmartBomb Steven, Douglas Trox at the Newspipe, but first, weather, with Sylvester Stewart.

Oops, sorry, that's The Day Today. Must've got a bit carried away there.

Martin, where do you get the idea of the red and orange squares? I presume they alternate, one getting bigger and one smaller.

What do people think of them using a 24 hour clock with hours, minutes and seconds underneath the BBC NEWS 24 instead?

Wouldn't be accurate enough because of digital encoding/uplink delays etc

I think he might have got the idea for the red and orange squares from BBC World - they use them on their headlines and nibs astons.

Not sure about having seconds on the clock - I think that would be a little distracting. I can't check now, as the clock has been gone for the best part of two days now, but IIRC it was in 24-hour clock anyway on News 24, so I would imagine it would stay like that?

No, wasn't 24 hour.

Not sure if that would be a little bit too sarcastic- i.e. if someone dies and suddenly the newsdesk turns red? Morbid?

Well BBC World have been using Orange Squares in their graphics for a while now. Also when putting the clock beneath the logo, there was a gap, which I wanted to fill. The Date was too big so I thought of animated squares. Animating, because it would give a feeling of constant movement, making it seem constantly doing something, to add to the continuous flowing feeling the channel lacks.

I have no knowledge from "the inside" other than whats been revealed here.

LOL!
Or when a major event like war occurs the entire desk & presenters move into one of the seperate studio areas (possible as the new studio is split into 3 sections)!

Or am I just recalling The Day Today.

I suggested the desk lighting red on breaking news what seems like weeks ago (probably because it was!). Another well produced mock, and I think the desk is a little OTT on reflection.

The most interesting thing about that shot is that it combines the known studio with the presumed graphics set for the first time...and I reckon it looks quite good from a basic colour matching/contrasting point of view.
