We all know that the new N24 is having a more emphasised approach to breaking news... this doesn't necessarily mean we will be getting huge letters on screen saying "BREAKING NEWS"... at least, I hope not.

I am hoping they will make more effective use of their plasmas/holograph screens during breaking news stories rather than having a massive strap, e.g. pan to presenter with screen in background, with a "Breaking News" logo on it...

Any thoughts????

I thought the globe was going to be used in Breaking News presentation - maybe this will be part of the better flagging of the news (no globe in the 'leaked' mocks above, though - and they seem to use the old logo)

I don't know what people mean by using the old logo in the 'leaked' mocks.

It's not the old logo! The old logo was this...

The red boxed NEWS 24 was just the ident during trailers.

This has totally passed me by but just read on another forum that the countdown pips etc are going and that the countdown ends with a shot of the newsroom.

I actually liked the countdown - preferred the old one - but the music was great!

No - the screenshot above is an ident (or a still from the titles to be more accurate).

The red box is a logo

the countdown pips are an integral part of N24... they can't just go Sad Sad Confused the music is fantastic... good job i got a full 90 second wav file burned onto cd for me to play at my leisure - on my surround sound system hehehe !!

OK, OK, whatever, (it's a mute point which is which, the still also appears on the screens) but my point is all we've seen which is new so far is the equivalent still from the new titles, not a new logo.

So assuming the mocks to be wrong because of this doesn't make sense.

i see the current Breaking News strap on N24 (16:13) is not in its usual ultra-bold. looks much better...

Back to the issue of DOGs, I see now on BBC World that the This Week DOG (similar to that of Reporters) has also changed and there are new astons, which obviously follow the same lines of other new astons.

And once again the current BBC World DOG covers the This Week DOG in the same way it did in Reporters.

EDIT: BBC World pres must have read my post! The old This Week DOG is now being used!

Mess Of The Maps

Over the last few days I have seen five different type of maps used...

I can see the use of the nice 3D map as used for Iraq, but why are there so many of the other sort (maybe excluding the black one as it is thought to be for the new graphics), which seem mostly just to be colour changes!

I don't know about News 24, but World always used to use one map - yellow countries and blue sea. Then, with the war in Afganistan, they made a 3D map of that area, followed by another 3D map for Iraq earlier in 2003. Also, since then, they've been using that orange and black one - I wish they'd keep them the same! What's the point of changing the colours all the time?!

On the subject of the Reporters/This Week graphic, I think we can safely say the DOG is going to move to another location, as the relaunch was supposed to happen last week, hence why this weeks recorded programmes are using the new presentation.

I still believe BBC News 24 is a complete waste of money and the whole project should be binned asap.

I have no interest anymore in watching it and if even more money is being wasted on new sets, graphics and relaunches I demand some of my licenese fee back!

Thank God we got SKy news
