Well if these are real then, they're horrid. The screenshots from Reporters and Australia Direct et al were promising because the designs were fresh. But if they're going to fill up every gap there is with ugly boxed logos and completely foreign ticker designs, then it's horrible. The astons would look good with the current DOG, but if these latest pictures are real, then they've buggered up the graphics good and proper.

You know... I can't see why such mocks would actually be distributed around the BBC by email?

Surely people who are working on the new look know what it looks like and have seen enough of it already if it is as awful as those examples; but hardly anyone else would have the need for such mocks.

You wouldn't just send them to anyone in the BBC with the "disclaimer" that Larry Scutta said they came with.

Marcus has implied that he was at least aware of said email though.
Is HE the mole?

(apologies - had too much)

Also I think seven very different colours on screen at the same time is way too much. At the moment they have four (black, white, two shades of red) and that's quite enough.

Now, had I said that I would've been murdered by everyone on here.

As it is, I quite agree with you DAS, but still am going to reserve judgement until I see them animating (which I think should be their redeeming feature).

I think there can be little doubt - whether official or not - that the pictures posted must be very similar to what everyone was expecting anyway, given the look of the Australia/Hardtalk/Reporters graphics.

Not keen on the increadibly odd choice of ticker colour, but then I am not keen on black graphics in a very white studio. Seems almost ridiculously stupid.

The alignment of text to the right also makes for a very difficult reading style. That just isn't how English is supposed to be read; Arabic, maybe. If the breaking news text is aligned to the left, but the name/correspondent text is aligned to the right, it won't be very easy on the eye.

So it appears they're real then. As I said when they were first posted, my only concern is the stretched boxed logo (obviously done to line up with "HEADLINES" on the ticker below it). I think the ticker and the live DOG look fresh and should provide some variation in colour without looking gharish.

I am concerned about how that breaking news beast is animated/used. It looks absolutely enormous and it limits description to one line (something that doesn't always allow accuracy- see Sky News with their 6 word astons). Otherwise they do seem very clean and fresh, and I can kind of see how they fit in with the new studio (orange in the logo, orange in the ticker; black predominant in logo, black remains predominant in aston etc.)

As c@t has said, I think the surprise will be in the animation/use of the new graphics set. I believe one reliable BBC source on this forum revealed that a colleague had said this would "blow Sky out of the water" or words to that effect. Whilst I think this is probably a bit of optimistic banter, I am looking forward to seeing what they meant.

Roll on Monday.

I can't think they'd be as sloppy as to spell 'may' with a lower case 'm' - even in the mocks.

I can't believe they'd be as sloppy as to put "Washington" when it quite obviously isn't!

Just on another thought, we do know a hell of a lot about the relaunch before the day itself- we now have seen the new logo, the new main studio and parts of the aston set. However we still don't have any substantial information on the contents of

Arrow the new countdown sequences, other than 4 new produced with less London focus
Arrow the new music/stings etc. other than "similar to current" and composed by David Lowe
Arrow the new titles other than live rendering of headlines onto a globe each hour
Arrow two thirds of the new studio (the analysis studio and the "big screen")
Arrow the rest of the graphics set (e.g. the simplest story aston) and how they animate
Arrow whether those screens are holoscreens are not (although one source says they are)

Still a lot unknown then- any more clues in the last 24 hours?

Yes, if that breaking news strap is Mosey's definition of "taste" then it leaves a lot to be desired.

Think possibly James is playing people for fools. Either way, the man's an idiot and has caused nothing but tedious bouts of trouble on here, so even though they were pretty much what I was expecting anyway, I'd take everything said until you actually see them on Monday with a big pinch of salt.

I know the BBC have to be different from the rest but aligning the text to the right and changing the layout doesn't change anything does it? It's still nothing screamingly new.

It's still going to be a news channel along with the rest. I'd like to see something completely new and different, going where no news channel has gone before.

When would they ever use a clip of a reporter speaking "last May"?

When would they say where something is if it was last May? If it happened last May do we really need to know where it was?

Then again if it's only a mock, does it really matter that the information on the three lines don't tie up with what's in the picture? It could just be an example of how the three line astons would look.

I'll be interested to see how all this ties in with Weather graphics, and trails. I guess they probably won't appear over trails because they're incorperated into the rest of the graphics, and not simply slapped on over the top of the finished product.

Lee, lovey, think you are possibly reading too much into this.

Just wait. You really have not got long to go.
