They are demo mocks, produced by the BBC. I cannot vouch for their accuracy, but the email in which they were sent to me (a @bbc.co.uk address I might add), were accompanied with the following text...
I recieved the same e-mail, but it also included the text: 'Not for putting on the internet' !!
Hmm, a conspiracy by people who use anagrams of their real names as usernames? Or a glimpse at the new look?
Does this mean that if Matt Frei wasn't speaking last May, the big aston would be put up with just Matt Frei, Reporting (and a big bit of blank black aston)? The shots also don't show the 'standard' aston with the story strap presumably running on the top- but would this be like the MATT FREI strap in black, or will it be yet another shade of red?
So many new questions with so little time left to wait...
If no-one's spotted the new Reporters aston then now is a good time. It has also taken on the Australia Direct look but in 2 shades of red.
EDIT : Also interesting to note that the Reporters DOG is still at the top left with space above it...
There's no space above the Reporters DOG on my TV
He means the big orange oblong which you should be able to see, even if you're watching in 4:3 like me (see my screenshot above) - normally the BBC News 24 DOG would be in this orange space.

Oh yes! In 4x3 there ain't no space, good point! Phileas - I don't think there's enough clearance in that screenshot.
Erm, if they are genuine, and I think they have to be at least 95% of the way there, then I would say nicer and more structured than the present set, but at the same time remaining pretty dull within the realms of graphical impact.
Guess it is going to be their animation which stands out. That side of things looks set to be very impressive.

The New Look
BBC News 24 December 2003
The aim is to be more consistent and eye-catching whilst remaining accurate and keeping our on-screen text informative. Astons should give headline information and be written in a clear and simple style. They do not have to be proper, grammatical sentences. Contractions such as "won’t, they’ll" are fine and numbers can be written as numerals.
Could you tell us the date on which you allegedly received this email- so that we can see how close these "BBC mock" pictures are to relaunch day?
I'm sorry that your user name does not inspire more confidence!
The email was sent last night (Friday evening). My username is an anagram of my name
Very naughty. The emails were confidential. And very silly to reveal your name.
