They are demo mocks, produced by the BBC. I cannot vouch for their accuracy, but the email in which they were sent to me (a @bbc.co.uk address I might add), were accompanied with the following text...

The New Look

BBC News 24 December 2003

The aim is to be more consistent and eye-catching whilst remaining accurate and keeping our on-screen text informative. Astons should give headline information and be written in a clear and simple style. They do not have to be proper, grammatical sentences. Contractions such as "won’t, they’ll" are fine and numbers can be written as numerals.

Could you tell us the date on which you allegedly received this email- so that we can see how close these "BBC mock" pictures are to relaunch day?

I'm sorry that your user name does not inspire more confidence!

The email was sent last night (Friday evening). My username is an anagram of my name (like Larry Scutta).

OK, I've think we've all concluded that these mocks are far from "real"

So if we are to believe you, we would expect these would be pretty much final stage mocks ready for the relaunch. Hmmmm, the lower case "may" put me off too, but the rest has the feel of potentially being right.

Like Martin, I'm also confused as to what DAS meant in his post on the previous page.

I *think* he means the Australia Direct and HARDtalk astons by the "real" ones.

One more thing that made me wary as to their authenticity is the use of three different shades of red on the screen at the same time in this picture:

You've got the box DOG on its own. Then the clock and red rectangle on the right of the screen are darker. Then the breaking news strap is lighter. It just seems like something that wouldn't be done, but hey, what do I know?

They don`t look legit to me. The BBC logo on the DOG looks like its been made using the TV Logo font (the original), which doesn`t look totally like an offical BBC logo.

Also, the shades of red don`t look right, and I would expect the text to be anti-aliased, even for demo versions.

I know the dog is changing, but isn't it still a BBC policy that all dogs must remain in the top left?

CBBC and Cbeebies do not follow the standard format but remain in that corner.

Thats whats making me wary of these mocks. Especially when James is involved! (Anyone remember the so called new music off the BBC server wind up a few months back?)

I've got to say if this is "A Major Setup", the mocks that have been produced are of a very high quality and would have been warmly received in the mocks forum. Good thinking from seeing the AD/Hardtalk graphics.

[Now I've said that, I expect they'll turn up on Monday morning Rolling Eyes ]

Am I the only person who actually thinks that these astons are perfect - perhaps some of the best to be on TV? Look at them... they match the current set of National astons, adding a clock beneath and a red strap on top. They make a much bigger point about breaking news than the current set

The e-mail sent to me also had the text 'Not for putting on the Internet'!!! Rolling Eyes

If these are the new graphics, presumably they should have been kept confidential and internal!

No, that's what I'm saying- I like everything about them apart from the stretched N24 box and potentially the huge Breaking News Beast (BNB- you heard it here first kids). But I still don't think we'll see them on Monday morning!
