They are demo mocks, produced by the BBC. I cannot vouch for their accuracy, but the email in which they were sent to me (a @bbc.co.uk address I might add), were accompanied with the following text...

The New Look

BBC News 24 December 2003

The aim is to be more consistent and eye-catching whilst remaining accurate and keeping our on-screen text informative. Astons should give headline information and be written in a clear and simple style. They do not have to be proper, grammatical sentences. Contractions such as "won’t, they’ll" are fine and numbers can be written as numerals.

Well if they are what you say they are, then the ticker mock is hideous. Kind of reminds me of mutli-coloured lego all stacked up. Rolling Eyes

OK, so I also have suspicions as to the authenticity of these, but time will tell. If we take them to be the genuine article, I think the BBC News 24 boxed DOG looks like it's been stretched a little too much

I do however like the live DOG and location strap, the orange/blue ticker (a nice colour combination and change for BBC news). It certainly fits in with the AD/Hardtalk graphics discussed here previously.

That Breaking news "beast" fits in with the 'increased flagging of breaking news', but I'll reserve judgement on it (if it is indeed genuine) until I've seen how it's used.

Well if these are real - and I'm not entirely convinced to be honest - they are hideous. Really really nasty. The astons shown in the (real) screenshots have a bit of style and are something different. The ones in James' pictures trample that style like an elephant walking over popcorn. Nasty nasty nasty.

N6 is used for the 6 Forum on DSat and online during the regional slot, so wouldn't be available to LDN.

BTW why do the news studios start numbering at 6?

Does the SiX forum still happen? I thought it had stopped a little while ago.

The reason the current studios start from the numbers they do is that they co-existed with the older studios for a while - and so to give them the same studio numbers would be crazy. (In fact the currrent World studio wasn't - ISTR - called N anything until World moved in - when it was the home of News 24 it was simply called News 24!)

The previous N# studios were - N1 (World's previous home), N2 (One/Six/Nine's previous home), N3 (Working Lunch's previous home, and also AIUI the home to the Newsroom-backed Nine) for a while, and N5 (once BBC World Arabic) which was at that time mothballed - though is now back modified as the BBCi studio at TVC.

Could you clarify that a bit. Which is the (real) and which is James'

It's not too hard to fake a "From" address, a look at the headers of the email would probably be more conclusive...

Also, if you dont mind me asking, why did they email these pictures to you? I'm sure they don't normally go emailling mocks to anyone who asks.

Could you tell us the date on which you allegedly received this email- so that we can see how close these "BBC mock" pictures are to relaunch day?

I'm sorry that your user name does not inspire more confidence!

I can't think they'd be as sloppy as to spell 'may' with a lower case 'm' - even in the mocks.
