Something tells me the graphics are not going to change. Today is the first time I've seen the "slidy phone moving graphics" work properly i.e. the font was not squashed, the "i"'s were legible and the refresh rate of text was high without being on speed. Now why would they improve that part of the graphics if they're about to be changed?

I suspect that they may change, but will be in keeping with what has been said before, that the channel is undergoing an "evolution not revolution" change.
I say this because ever since the "intelligent" ticker was introduced, the character generator that has been used for the info astons since seems dodgy and buggy to me, especially with the odd vidiprinter effect after the first line is displayed, where there is a slight delay, and also where it often repeats "typing" one line which has already appeared. Sometimes, no typing effect is used, and the next text appears straight away, the effect which is mainly used on US networks.
So it could be temporary while the main equipment used to generate the astons and graphic is worked on to improve the graphics?
Just like to point something out. When News 24 changed from the first Flags era studio to the second one it had no on screen effect as the new studio was in a different room altogether. When it changed from the second flags studio to the current corporate one they had to use the world news room for 2 weekends so that they could change the studio. This was possible because the main news desk backdrop looked across the news centre and the new set faced the other way and was built behind the cameras.

That intelligent ticker types slower then BBC World's ticker, even the overnight ticker used when they are in BBC World's set is faster then the intelligent ticker!
So if World's on the move too could there not a be a slight possibility that the new set will be in the same area as BBC World therefore World coudn't broadcast while a new set was being built next to it??? Surely they'd be wanting to move the set away from the newsroom rather than take up more space in the newsroom for an even bigger set than they have now.

hehe - by "intelligent" ticker I meant the text crawl that appears during live coverage, extended breaking news coverage and at 15 minute intervals in recorded programmes, that update people on the headlines. Uses a DVE effect to shrink and push the frame up slightly so the ticker doesn't interfere with other on screen graphics.
But the new character generator for the astons with the slow typing effect and the ticker text crawl were introduced at the same time.
Did anyone else notice a strange rumbling noise in the background at around 8.30 this evening? Sounded a bit like an engine running. Was this the infamous air-conditioning playing up again?

It is acually called an "intelligent" ticker because nobody types it- the words are generated by a computer that trawls through BBC News Online and picks out the key sentences. Sometimes, when they forget to turn the ticker off during e.g. hardtalk, the headlines run on for several minutes without repetition, bringing some of the more obscure world news etc.
I think the astons should be shrunk to the size that they are when the ticker is on the screen- surely if they believe it is still legible at that size they should keep it at that size permanently, moving the aston straight up to accomodate a ticker below (at the same smaller size text) i.e. none of this zooming business to accomodate the ticker.

Ah, yeah, forgot about it automatically getting its content from BBC News Online.

The new News 24 studio is being built in the same place as the current one. The only reason that World is moving out of its newsroom/sets is so that News 24 can still broadcast properly, producing joint bulletins for both channels from World's set, while the summaries on World are made elsewhere by the on-duty World presenter. News 24 are staying in the News Centre; BBC World is actually outside the News Centre.
