let us have N24 permanently from the World studio...

This may be an unpopular viewpoint but I thought that the set at Millbank as used was a vast improvement on the N24 set (real or CSO) and the national sets. Just looked more newsy and immediate to me.

steve, agreed. would be a good alternative were it not for the mock wood panelling in the background there to reflect it's Westminster location...

I still think we should stick with the World studio for N24 Cool

Hope I'm not getting too carried away with this transcreen/holoscreen rumours, but if you read the FAQs on the transcreen pages here, you will notice that if you project black onto a transcreen it is effectively see-through.

Which got me looking at the press release shots of the new studio (dug this one up- nice to have a picture of the relaunch within 100 pages of the actual relaunch day!):

They could project black when not using this screen to see through to the other areas of the studio, so providing an open gateway from the main desk.

Just an idea though- this holoscreen stuff could all be untrue.

Does anyone else think that the red plastic looks a bit cheap and tacky? That said, it may look completely different on screen.

Edit: Was going to ask why they didin't go for a Network News-style wooden floor, then realised it matches the circles on the floor in the 1/6/10 projection - perhaps we'll see a newsdesk added there from Monday. Very Happy

I'm guessing that, at some point over the weekend, World will move out of TC10 and into either N9, or their normal CSO (single, fixed camera) studio so that any equipment can be moved back into place.

News 24, on the other hand, looks *so* much more interesting at the moment - people actually moving about in the background, 2-ways on the big screen, and a big News 24 graphic in shot for news in brief stories. They even seem to be making better use of it than World usually do.

According to Media Boy earlier in this thread (a few pages back), it looks like that BBC World will be using TC10 for the rest of today. Overnight joint service will come from N9. Tommorow, BBC World will use N6, simulcasting with News 24 from N9 when N6 is required for BBC ONE, so equipment in TC10 can be moved back to N8. Joint service and The World Today/European Breakfast on Monday early morning will come from N6, as TC10 will be offline, and N9 will also be offline so new kit can be installed for World's little revamp on Monday. N8 and N9 should be in use from 9am Monday morning.

Media Boys timings are slightly out. The end of the CSO studio is very very near

Sorry to take it a bit OT, but I stumbled across this profile of correspondent Tom Heap on the N24 website:

Quote:
Tom's journalistic career started at Sky News before coming to the BBC in 1992.

He worked on the Today Programme for three years learning how to anticipate, not just react to the news.

Is it just me, or is that a bit bitchy?

A projection thingy that every one has been talking about... ah yes a holoscreen is in the new studio. I have seen it in a picture.

Possibly a little inappropriate in the light of the Andrew Gilligan business?

Is Julia Caesar a stage name or did she have cruel parents???

Julia actually popped up on here* once before to say that it really is her name - her parents just have a strange sense of humour.
*I think it was here - although could have been Media UK

Someone is going to have to explain this to me... how could you "project" black? Surely black is the lack of light, so where there's black, nothing would be projected. That would explain why those parts would be transparent - because there's no light hitting the screen.

watching N24 at the mo, and they appear to be having yet more technical problems, instead of showing the sedualed edition of Straight Talk there now showing a repeat of Talking Movies. Hope this does not have implicmentations for the relauch.

Not at all - the tape got eaten by the Beta machine! Thats all!

why the h*ll have they kept a variant of that metre high wall at the bottom behind the presenters... they havent on the main news... that should be disposed of in favour of a totally clear background... is there a techincal reason for its presence??? they dont have it on BBC World either ( Confused: )
