News 24, on the other hand, looks *so* much more interesting at the moment - people actually moving about in the background, 2-ways on the big screen, and a big News 24 graphic in shot for news in brief stories. They even seem to be making better use of it than World usually do.

I am wondering if the new "holographics" screens will be used to both illustrate the stories (with a static picture) and be used for the two-ways too?

AFAIK there hasn't been anything except idle speculation as to whether or not holographic stuff will be used.
But if it was - coooool Very Happy

Quick question:
This morning at 8.30 when Sian did the news summary before Bill and guest did the paper review, where was she doing it from?

There was a white, translucent panel behind her across most of the screen and in the distance a red wall. It didn't look like any angle I recognise used at the BBC World news desk.

Edit: Forgot to mention that she actually said "This is Weekend 24 from the studios of BBC News 24 ", which did briefly make me sit up and wonder whether it was a sneaky on-air pre-launch appearance of the set, not that it seemed likely.

It was the main desk in N9, just from a slightly different angle than what is usually used. If you go back from the plasma screen, there's a mirror, then the white panelling, then a red wall, and then the gallery. Was the newspaper review done from the Sport Today set? I always think that set looks really good when the 'toblerones' are turned to the generic red!

Well it was one, they use some odd angles when News 24 use the set. I believe it was to prevent you seeing the man doing the paper review sitting down in the middle.

Really? My God, could N24 be about to install holographic equipment? That would be so incredibly cool and very revolutionary (quite unlike BBC News really!)

The white panel was across the right side of the screen, which was what confused me. I know there's the plasma, then the 'bit round the corner' next to it, then round to the black/red monitor setup. Is the white plastic panel furhter roudn than that? <puzzled>

The newspaper review was done from the main desk, with the guest in the usual 'centre' position.

Can anyone knock up a quick plan or something to help me work it out?

The white panelling is between the mirror and the red wall with the monitors. The angle might have been so that it captured a bit of the white panelling on the right, and the mirror on the left - that might have been reflecting a bit of red wall from the other side of the newsroom? That's the only explanation I can think of.

BBC World News is just cool full stop... better studio, better camera angles/plasmas, better idents (more forceful claps of thunder), better fade-out of ident, better beds, better full stop... give the new look "Univers" to BBC World and let us have N24 permanently from the World studio... including all music. And give N24 Stephen Cole, Adrian Finnigan and Mishal Hussein to boot... swap em for the boring Gosling!!
