6 months to build a new set! There has to be something pretty major happening with the new design!

Six weeks - not months! Laughing I imagine much of the time will be spent re-decorating the newsroom to match the new look (it may involve some structural work too). Purely speculation though, but I can't imagine just the set would take so long to construct!

If this does happen, the new backdrop for the national may be a shot of a section of the newsroom.

my mistake.

I'm so tired after uni at the mo sorry. But still 6 weeks is a long time considering the current studio, all be it in it's original form only took a weekend...

Yes, I pressume the new studio is going to be more complex than the present one. I am not sure if it is going to have big screens because the BBC news director said it will have a lot of green... Rolling Eyes

Well first of all they'll sort out the infamous air-con system which frankly could takes weeks in itselt. Then they build the studio. But then you have to leave some time for the presenters and cameramen/technicians/editors to practice with the new shot positions and possible new presenting techniques. I think the one thing we've definitely been promised is more movement between areas of the studio.

So 6 weeks sounds perfectly plausible.

The set they currently use was built over 2 weekends. This was possible because the main news desk faced the opposite direction looking across the news centre. This new set probably faces the same way so they cant just pretend everythings ok.

I've always wanted to see a double-floored studio - a bit like ITV1 made for the last general election. You could have so much more time to set things up then - and crane cameras could be used to awesome effect to 'swing' up from one floor to another

No he didn't. He actually said in an article that viewers wouldn't wake up one morning to see the set had turned green.

Well, it seems I learned a lot from my reading comprehension class... Rolling Eyes . Then , I suppose it won't be a "gorgeous" studio after all.I have read that many designers prefer to desing a simple studio, so the viewer will be focus on the newsreader instead of what is behind him/her.

There can be a special elogance and beauty in the simplicity used in design. It doesnt have to be flashing with colours and effects to look georgeous.

Just a proper view of the newsroom quietly muffled behind and around the presenters at a bright white and chrome desk with screens and laptops to hand.

Perhaps a large presentation area for in-depth reports, much like Sky News' Newswall, only it could be a floor device or VR. Even a small collection of screens around a presenter with information and images appearing on each of them until the newsreporter moves to the next point on the next screen and the previous screen dimms.

Its a way of innovating the idea, and could be a new presentation device. 6 screens in a semi-circle with lights on the floor which light up beneath the presenter as she moves from screen to screen. Major stories and complex stories can be broken into 6 key points.

Its just an idea..

But the studio should be there to show the news being gathered, and finally being reported and expanded on. A studio which is clean, large, boasts a wide view of the whole BBC News Gathering Team, and the studio being equiped to report in unusual ways. Rather then intro, VT report, Interview - Next story!!!! BORING!

Well hopefully News 24 can move into a distinctive role against Sky's clean fast to the point service, and ITV's populist agendas.

A return to short sleeves should be considered. All the news readers should convey an interested, informed and researched attitude to reading the news. The on-air chemestry between presenters MUST be warm and friendly, or else the Audience will feel patronised and bored.

The atmosphere must show these presenters have been chasing up the story, to show they are journalists and not actors! The whole ephos and on-air appearence of the channel should remind and show people how big and efficiant the Beeb News team is.

I am going on a bit now, but I will be very disappointed if this new look on the way is just a new dress on the old sagging body!!

Please BBC News 24 - Do this right, make your vast operation and experience stand out, and dont return to boring suited farts preeaching to people almost like zombies, except for scripted banter! Mad

One reason that News 24 were able to move into their current set over a weekend was probably due to the fact that they moved from where BBC World is currently to their completely new studio. Considering the fact that the revamped N24 set is in the same location as the previous one and there is probably going to be some work done with the systems this could be the reason why it is taking longer.
