I've just had a thought. There's a new type of laminate [for use in Glass] which reacts to a 'blank light' [i.e. black on a projector] to make it transparent, and all colour is kept on the surface - therefore creating a sort of hologram.
I was wondering then. We've heard that the back of the logo would be black, that it would be projected on to a screen, and that the screens are in fixed positions. It seems like a perfect use for this. So, will we see a holographic logo, then?
Edit:
A little research into this and I've found a good site about it - it's a process called the TransScreen [not to be confused with a transcreen which is something medical apparently!]. Interesting stuff though, and it'd explain why the 'black' doesn't look black. Note also how it mentions 'under the right lighting it'll be invisible'. Bingo, then. - And also, that makes the job of this 'real time rendering' much easier. No chromakey needed, just whap it onto the clever screen
and the slogan "We create magical things you've never seen before" - not exactly the most original or witty marketing pitch I've heard - could have come up with a concept as interesting as this 'TransScreen'.
That's possibly also the worst website I've ever seen in my life, not just in its putrid visual 'style', but also in the sheer unbridled chaos of the HTML. My cat barfs up better websites than that. One can only assume - and hope to God - that the technical proficiency of their products eclipses the broader image of wholesale ineptitude communicated by their online material.
It'd be cool if the studio did use that though. I could imagine that the beeb could spend a lot of time getting angles to use on it - I think there are 3 cameras pointing at the main set, so they'd have to be in pretty perfect postitions to not give the game away.
Also, it looks as though BBC wouldn't be the first news station to use it - incidentally (?) it's ABC News [who are shown on News 24]
I've just been watching BBC World News at 0600 GMT and they've been definitly in a different set with a CSO'ed background:
- Adrian Finnighan looked a little bit strange with his face having a touch of blue.
- they used the same camera position all throughout the programme
- they used a split screen for interviews
- the astons were slightly different (the "LIVE" aston was much bolder)
Is it TC 10 they are using? But where has News 24 gone then? Are they in the World studio?
It was definitly NO joint bulletin.
It was nice to see Bill and Sian back in a real studio again! And Bill mentioned the new look - they were complaining about being so far apart, and he said that they were in a temporary studio for this weekend, but next weekend - "whoa....we'll be in a brand new studio". He sounded pretty excited about it!
The 09:30 on N24 had a "BBC NEWS" sting and is coming from the WORLD studio - is this a simulcast with WORLD or are they still stuck in the TC10.
I wish I had seen Bill & Sian this morning. I will have to watch at the end of tomorrow's programme to see if they mention anything about the re-launch (I'm sure they will - they tend to be very open with viewers).
PS: Nice story about the US Woman who ran over the employee of a Burger Bar because he didn't put mayonnaise on her Burger !! (She got 10 years!) Americans ARE CRAZY !!!
