Whatever next... let's hope Monday runs smoothly.

Is TV Centre like a set of old Christmas lights where if one bulb goes, the whole lot goes out?

Don't be silly.

Fairy lights are far more reliable.

Second thoughts, lets see the new desk catch fire with all the light bulbs stuck underneath it. Laughing

I don't know what other regions did, but here in the North East we opted out to the Look North newsroom for the headlines for a few seconds (about half a headline!) and then opted back in to the rest of the titles. I don't think anyone told them that all was not well, and they were cutting the regional bit.

They were told.

So in fact this second power failure has affected a whole different area of the building, namely the national set

I take it whatever surprise we were expecting on N24 at 11pm isn't going ahead- it's probably going to be World

I think that was the surprise anyway - Mishal on News 24!

Straight into 60 seconds of countdown there.

Same on World (but the World countdown)...now back to Mishal.

How would that have been done? Is N9 patched directly into the N24 transmission chain and they played out the News24 version and World Pres played the World version?

Well they manage two seperate countdowns during overnight simulcasting so they probably used whatever setup they normally use for that.

News 24 is transmitted directly from their Studio. BBC World has a Presentation suite, so the World News Studio cannot go to air directly - it all goes through pres. Taped programmes and breaks are dealt with by Pres.

Overnight, News 24 comes direct from whichever studio they're in and they play a News24 countdown to the top of each hour. World Pres play the World countdown to the top of the hour then join the News Studio as soon as they have cut away from their countdown. This is why you occasionally see a flash-frame of the News24 countdown on World overnight.

I think the 11pm reference was that that's when they were meant to be starting to bring the power back, according to an earlier post in this thread

Let's be honest.. at least UK viewers have a variety of news right at this moment!!

Instead of BBC1 and News24 both simultaneously doing mainly UK news you have a choice of UK news on BBC1 or World news on News24!

It's a bit like choosing your edition of the website!!!

Can anybody justify having two seperate news programmes doing the same thing at the same time in the normal schedule?

I think it would make sense for 24 to take World at 10pm!

I think the last time this came up, a few pages back in this thread IIRC, the feeling was that in normal circumstances News24 is signed while many of the national bulletins are on 1

Doubtless, most viewers won't notice any difference.

However - I think there's sufficient lack of character to the programme to merit some mention of the rather flat setting.

Also - it will be interesting to see how they close the programme. Obviously a long shot of the studio is out of the question. I suspect we'll see the closing animation - not seen on air in nearly a year...
