Firstly, with the week long relaunch delay (not that the Guardian's media editor knows about it), we've got to fill the space with something- there is a limit to speculation, especially when most is known. Where with this forum be without the occasional slanging match?

tsunami - your assertion that the Guardian and quality do not go together shows a level of stupidity I have yet to see matched on here.

You see, that's beautiful slanging- that's far more interesting to read than the latest ITV regional news ident subset for the Western half of the Orkney islands. Anyway back on topic (as if you'd close the "featured thread" Wink )

Quite how you are able to come to the conclusion that a newspaper responsible for bringing down the last government through exposure of sleaze allegations, a newspaper that uncovered genocide in Eastern Europe, a newspaper whose Comment pages formed the platform for the SDLP on which to launch, quite how you come to a conclusion that a newspaper like that is not of "quality" is beyond me.

And I'd expect you to say all that because you're a lefty, who likes to read things he agrees with. Perhaps my "quality" remark was a little tongue-in-cheek, but the point remains that Media Guardian are hopelessly biased against the BBC, and their online arm generally misreport/misinterpret (read "blantently alter") far more stories than most outlets would consider "respectable".

What I find so wonderfully ironic is that these past few years I have been saying what a disastrous mess News 24 is: boring, lifeless, crap at breaking news. For years you have been disagreeing with me, defending it to the hilt. And yet just the other day, the woman in charge of the channel itself comes out and backs up everything I've said.

Remarkable. Truly remarkable.

That however, would be selective listening. She didn't say N24 was "boring, lifeless, crap at breaking news", but she was critical of some aspects of the service (as I'm sure she would be of Sky news). She also pointed out that the idea that Sky break more news "first" is a misconception proven by independent research.

Oh and I don't defend N24 to hilt anymore than you defend Sky.

I also just love your selective responding- I'll take the ignoring of my post on why the potential new look astons don't resemble sky news as an admission of your "level of stupidity I have yet to see matched on here" Wink

Hardtalk just now had astons very similar to the Australia Direct ones - right justified with an orange block, and three lines of text with the same gap to the bottom of the screen. Though it was all coloured in gradients similar to the Hardtalk logo.

This is obviously the form that the new astons are going to take.

Looks like we're beginning to see a gradual rollout, then? Or is this just with pre-recorded programmes that were meant to be played after todays (postponed) relaunch?

I don't think we should read too much into Australia today or Hardtalk's aston, the final aston will be different, perhaps it will use the same font though.

Does this mean you've seen them, or just think they'll be different? Seems strange how Australia Direct and Hardtalk have new similar astons in the week News 24 was due to relaunch!

Well, I saw new Hardtalk astons like the Australia Direct ones a couple of weeks ago. I don't think they've just appeared this week...

I wouldn't suprise me if some of the pre-recorded material has the news look N24 in it, it all depends when these programmes are editted.

By the way will BBC Parliament be changing its appearance when N24 relaunches?

Also I think that when N24 does relaunch there need to be a new topic discussing the new look, as this one is getting full to bursting.

As Rowan said earlier on, this thread will be locked so that a new one for the actual day of the relaunch can be used. Very Happy

Is it me or is the text on the astons not Gill Sans? Anyone know what it is?

Might be a clue that the new look will only feature Gill Sans in the actual BBC NEWS 24 logo?

Whatever it is, it looks far better than Gills Sans, which should be limited to upper case in my opinion.
