My point - made a number of hours ago - remains: it is a wonder that anyone gives a sh-t.

Well, indeed - if you do ever find anyone that gives a sh-t about one of your points, please don't hesitate to keep it to yourself.

Why bother replying then? If my points are of, as you suggest, such little worth, follow your own guidance on the matter.

tsunami - your assertion that the Guardian and quality do not go together shows a level of stupidity I have yet to see matched on here. Quite how you are able to come to the conclusion that a newspaper responsible for bringing down the last government through exposure of sleaze allegations, a newspaper that uncovered genocide in Eastern Europe, a newspaper whose Comment pages formed the platform for the SDLP on which to launch, quite how you come to a conclusion that a newspaper like that is not of "quality" is beyond me.

What I find so wonderfully ironic is that these past few years I have been saying what a disastrous mess News 24 is: boring, lifeless, crap at breaking news. For years you have been disagreeing with me, defending it to the hilt. And yet just the other day, the woman in charge of the channel itself comes out and backs up everything I've said.

Remarkable. Truly remarkable.

Dear God, you're boring.

What's remarkable to me is just how much attention you have given this whole issue given how unworthy of attention you so vehemently insist it is. Perhaps you should lead by example and ignore the issue yourself, instead of returning to the debate for no other reasons than to have the last word in the argument and to demand that we all acknowledge your wisdom and supreme judgement.

Well you've been saying News 24 is crap for years, and now the BBC agrees with you. Congratulations, we applaud your incredible foresight, and we're enormously grateful to you for bringing that fact to our attention. Now, why don't you be a good little pussy and stop demanding attention from everyone?

Sheesh LDN, will you stop letting your well-constructed albeit lengthy arguments down with these condescending putdowns? NO-ONE has the right here (admins aside) to tell people what they may and may not do, and you would do well to learn from that.

Sput, my quarrel is not with you, nor indeed with anyone who has an opinion which they are willing to share and explain. My issue with c@t is that I expressed an opinion which did not agree with his, and rather than discuss the point intelligently, he went for his usual petulant insults. If you're in the market for condescending putdowns, look no further than c@t.

Incidentally, Sput, if "no-one has the right here (admins aside) to tell people what they may and may not do", I'm not entirely sure what gives you the right to be telling me off either. We could all quite easily get trapped in these circular arguments, telling each other off for telling each other off for telling each other off ad infinitum . The point is the argument itself could easily be avoided if people stuck to discussing the issues themselves, rather than simply enjoying personal attacks, or arguing solely for the purpose of winning.

SO WHY REPLY?!?!?

Good Lord.

I reply because I genuinely enjoy having arguments, and think they make the place just a little more interesting. They give me a reason to read this place. I'll admit it... it's nothing to be ashamed of. I don't find them boring at all.

If you are intent on telling us all how boring and pathetic we are, LDN, just don't get involved with the arguments. Nobody got you involved with it, I didn't say "That LDN, I wish he'd tell us all what he thinks about this". I'd love to have a lovely long argument with you that descends into chaos, nonsense and sillyness, and hopefully locked threads, but you just run out of steam halfway through and tell us we're all "boring"; if you're going to do that, just don't bother getting involved in the first place, my love.

Is there any chance that we could possibly get back on topic before this thread has to be closed? I know you're all discussing the relaunch in one form or another, but please try to cut the arguing out.

Why? Arguments - and those who seek to resist them is all this forum has left to stand on.

Shhh now.

And, Martin, you may have been right about something we were discussing a few (hundred) pages back.

I'll say no more than that.

Aww I don't know, I think the topic has been talked to death... I think people just want to see it in action.

I think people (perhaps wrongly) have lost a little bit of enthusiasm as we saw the new set/titles too early (seeing as the relaunch has been put back a week)...

So a bit of a watered down relaunch really.
