b) the fact that the said power cut has delayed the News 24 relaunch by a week. Her opening words: "This week the BBC unveils its "new look" News 24" It's next week dear; your article is a week early.

To be fair, the Monday media supplement probably goes to press on Friday afternoon - and it was mid-afternoon when we first heard about the relaunch postponement.

Re: the graphics. Makes them look even more like Sky than ever before.

I could have predicted you'd say that about a year ago. How on earth do those graphics (that may be the basis of the new look) remotely resemble Sky's feeble attempt. Could it be:

Arrow the headline strap being above the detailed aston?
Arrow the black on white text?
Arrow the small caps aston text?
Arrow the right alignment of the aston?
Arrow the orange headline strap?
Arrow the red box to the right of the text?
Arrow the clock at the bottom of the screen?
Arrow the size of the aston?

No, because it's all different to Sky...in fact it looks nothing like Sky News at all.

But it's still on the website, unchanged, and dated today. Even if it had been written on Friday, there's nothing to stop them changing it now.

Now excuse me for sounding dumb but the image I'm looking at that you all seem to be referring to is for AUSTRALIA DIRECT... a programme on N24 so this is no doubt where the orange is coming from. But I can't see this 'Red' box everyone shouts of.. I see an orange box.

Though it's linked from the front page of the site, it's actually in the section that archives the content of the printed Monday supplement.

Most papers tend not to change stuff like that if they can help it, otherwise it detracts from the usefulness of the site as an archive of what actually appeared in print.

I admit it's confusing though.

Why are they broadcasting the satellite feed for BBC LDN on DTT?

Either that or some new features have appeared - pressing the TV button and number 1 to get your local region. What TV button? Wink

Probably network using the very old announcement that doesn't apply any more.

Do they still use that intro on Sky 944? Last time I looked on what passes for BBC London on Sky(Network branding, but London local news), they did so, even though there's no need for the announcement these days !

Are they going to put proper BBC London on SKY yet ?

they should have better provisions in place so that if they DO get a power cut at 7 am on a Friday morning, they DON'T have to replace their entire news output with pre-recorded and repeated material for a time, then having a reduced service for the best part of the day.

I think pre-recorded and repeated material is preferable to the alternative...

My point - made a number of hours ago - remains: it is a wonder that anyone gives a sh-t.

Well, indeed - if you do ever find anyone that gives a sh-t about one of your points, please don't hesitate to keep it to yourself.

Why bother replying then? If my points are of, as you suggest, such little worth, follow your own guidance on the matter.

tsunami - your assertion that the Guardian and quality do not go together shows a level of stupidity I have yet to see matched on here. Quite how you are able to come to the conclusion that a newspaper responsible for bringing down the last government through exposure of sleaze allegations, a newspaper that uncovered genocide in Eastern Europe, a newspaper whose Comment pages formed the platform for the SDLP on which to launch, quite how you come to a conclusion that a newspaper like that is not of "quality" is beyond me.

What I find so wonderfully ironic is that these past few years I have been saying what a disastrous mess News 24 is: boring, lifeless, crap at breaking news. For years you have been disagreeing with me, defending it to the hilt. And yet just the other day, the woman in charge of the channel itself comes out and backs up everything I've said.

Remarkable. Truly remarkable.
