Here's a question that might have been answered and I've missed it - N24 have (at least when I've been watching it) stopped using that graphics generator that output the dodgy-looking text (they've not used it for quite a few weeks, AFAICT).. Did they stop using it because it just looked awful?

I recorded World News Tonight (1:30am) on my hard drive recorder last night but ABC News didn't show it due to them showing football instead, so News 24 had half an hour of UK news instead.

I just though I would mention it because It's unusual to have a decent length UK news bulletin overnight (i.e. not simulcast with World and more than just a five minute summary at half past each hour).

Lets be honest here. who on earth thinks that a few hours of power loss can lead to a WEEKS postponement of a relaunch of News 24. It seems wholly ridiculous. Press photos were released, articles appeared in papers, all was ready....................yet a power failure that rectified itself by 4pm GMT means that a relaunch is delayed by a week.....................................RIGHT??????

Full power to the second floor will not be ready and safe for broadcast from till monday! No work is happening this weekend - it will resume on monday! Thats THREE days lost - that is why the launch is postponed.... Its much more serious than it first seams - back up generators are arriving at TVC this weekend - there will be more power downs while full power is restored - so expect some TC7 or Millbank news's during the weekend.

It was probably more of a case of not being ready anyway and insufficient pilot testing being completed. The power cut probably just gave them a convenient excuse to put it back another week.

The power failure has not rectified itself ... the problems still exist and will take a few days to fix totally ... the news centre is running on reduced capacity at the moment.
This is just my personal view but if I was in charge I would be asking "Why would you risk re-launching when the power isn't 100per cent stable?" That would just be silly wouldn't it? Imagine is you did and then everything blew again? Better to be safe than sorry. And with all these problems anyway there hasn't been enough time to test all the bits and piece anyway.

Yes - and given that the temporary studio is not in the News Centre it would be extremely difficult to pilot (and launch on Monday) without full power. The fact that the normal News 24 studio is not in use at the moment probably means that the rest of the News Centre can cope with the reduced power available (only a reduced number of PCs and TVs can be powered currently) - imagine trying to run a full gallery and studio with lighting as well...

At the end of the day there are very few live programmes being broadcast from TVC (particularly during the week) meaning that working on reduced power isn't too big a problem.

Just hope the backup generators (or whatever they will be using) will actually work, as it seems that the backup supply tends to fail at the worst possible moments.

Cool

No. BBC World will launch at the same time as News24. Now scheduled for 9am Monday 8th december. Part of the reason the relaunch has to happen on a Monday is that it takes time to reprogramme various bits of equipment in the World studio as well as in Presentaion areas around the world. The World studio will be off line for about 4 hours before the relaunch

On a serious note ... I happened to bump into one of the big BBC news bods and he mentioned the TV Forum to me. (He knows that I post stuff on here). Seems that they've been reading all the posts of the News 24 relaunch ... and actually been impressed with the quality of the discussion and the passion lots of people have for the look of BBC News. You never know some of what you suggest may make it on to the screen. Anyway just thought I'd pass it on that the big bosses are at least looking at what you say/think. I'm sure they'll be interested in your comments once the re-launch has happened next Monday.

Ooooo...

Does that mean if we all ask really really nicely they'll give us lots of behind the scenes stuff, like a timelapse set building... thought not.
