Lets be honest here. who on earth thinks that a few hours of power loss can lead to a WEEKS postponement of a relaunch of News 24. It seems wholly ridiculous. Press photos were released, articles appeared in papers, all was ready....................yet a power failure that rectified itself by 4pm GMT means that a relaunch is delayed by a week.....................................RIGHT??????

It was probably more of a case of not being ready anyway and insufficient pilot testing being completed. The power cut probably just gave them a convenient excuse to put it back another week.

Indeed, SE. Does anyone remember when they last updated the presentation with the black-and-red animated supers and everything? And how nothing lined up or cued properly? (I think that was a hundred-page thread as well.) Could it actually be that they're taking the proper time to test and make sure everything works before trying it out on the general public?

If so, it's time well spent, I think.

The power failure has not rectified itself ... the problems still exist and will take a few days to fix totally ... the news centre is running on reduced capacity at the moment.
This is just my personal view but if I was in charge I would be asking "Why would you risk re-launching when the power isn't 100per cent stable?" That would just be silly wouldn't it? Imagine is you did and then everything blew again? Better to be safe than sorry. And with all these problems anyway there hasn't been enough time to test all the bits and piece anyway.

It's pathetic how a piece of equipment can overheat and wipe out a vast amount of the BBC's services. World's Best Broadcaster ? Pah.

If the ITV News Channel was knocked off air by a power failure no-one would notice

I use subtitles, and they always miss words out, or change what a person is saying. This is what's wrong with subtitles.

The entire syntax of the BSL language is different to spoken and written English - that's why.

Yep - just reading back some of it. As Marcus has already pointed out, and Nicky has just pointed out, the power supply isn't 100% fixed. Surely better off to wait until they are sure the power is right rather than risk another of these power cuts?

It could have been worse....imagine the embarassment if this had happened on Monday or Tuesday next week, just after the relaunch had started. This could actually be a blessing in disguise despite the disappointment of delaying the relaunch.
