We've seen better mocks on here than this still that accompanied the countdown music on News 24 Smile

But more time is spent on mocks - they aren't made in the real world
Although of course most mocks are made with only 1 hand! Laughing

The News 24 dog has just appeared and disappeared again. Presumably they are in the process of restoring the normal transmission chain?

4PM: back in TVC but still without a dog or clock. 30+ pages generated in just under 8 hours? This has got to be a record setting level of activity for a thread?

Why has the relaunch of News 24 been put back a week? They have experienced setbacks which have caused disruption for 1 day. Why therefore will that cause them to need to put the relaunch back by a week? Since they are making absolutely no promotion of it at all (this afternoon they have been talking about 'their normal studio' even though they haven't been there since October) I don't see why it matters if they revamp it on a Monday or a Tuesday.

For what it's worth, I really like the way this set looks and sounds. I like the background noise of the busy office, and I like being able to see people doing their stuff at work...

So do I. A bit rough round the edges, but with some work this is exactly how I think a News 24 set should look. Set in a real newsroom with people doing real work in the background (not just made up for the camera). It creates a sense of immediacy that just can't be matched by the more remote approach News 24 has used (and will continue to use).

I dread to see the new titles - BLACK? I hope to goodness they aren't as poor as the cheapo ones we saw for the Iraq War.

I'm waiting to be surprised by the presence of new titles. The national news underwent a complete relaunch complete with a new logo over 8 months ago, and so far the only new titles to appear are stings for the short bulletins. I really think it's highly possible that the old titles are going nowhere.

from the article referred to in this thread:
Quote:
Secret orders to the captains say that these deadly instructions are to be opened and acted upon only if the submarine cannot tune in to Radio 4’s Today programme for a given number of consecutive days. That is a reliable sign that Britain has been hit by a nuclear attack.

Reports suggest that the Prime Minister’s letter, written just days after he won the 1997 election, offers the submarines four options: to put the vessels under US command, to make their way to Australia, to launch a nuclear strike against the enemy or to use their own judgement.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems rather worrying that if they go a few days without being able to pick up a programme on a LW radio station which might be broadcasting from the other side of the world from where they are then they than have the authority to start World War 3.

Surely they should take not being able to pick up Radio 4 as a worrying sign, but then have to check to see if they can pick up any other broadcasts from the UK, check other broadcasters from other 'friendly' countries to see if details of any nuclear strike on the UK is being reported, and finally break radio silence to confirm all of this.

What I also find interesting is that they are allowed to start a strike on 'the enemy'. How will they know who the enemy is? Is there a long list of 'enemy' countries, all of which will be attacked?

I think that they should relaunch it on Saturday (next) as the start of the weekend is just as appropiate as launching it at the start of the week.

We're down to 800A, theres not enough power to do the tests and stuff, half the PC's in stage 6 are still out. Power won't be restored fully until Sunday.

Surely they'll be more people working during the week than at a weekend? Starting it on a Monday is no more or less appropriate than any other day of the week.

Just noticed that News 24 is minus the clock.

If you start something like a relaunch project, surely you really want to do it when you have the most people involved around.

Start on a Monday morning, then you have a whole week of office-hours to sort out any problems.

Do it on a saturday, you are going to have less staff, a different programming pattern, and also Breakfast comes from News 24 studio on Satuday, not the Breakfast set, just to complicate matters.

If the power had just failed for all my computer systems, I wouldn't be launching anything the next working day.
