Just had a thought. If those new screens are projected, won't they cost a lot to run / not be that practical?

Projectors always seem to require new bulbs on a regular basis and I always assumed they shouldn't be used for long periods of time.

Where I go to school the progectors there are on for about 8 hours every day and none have had any bulbs replaced. In fact, progectors don't have bulbs to my knowledge, probably ultra-bright LEDs or somthing/

Nope - bright TV projectors still use halogen or similar bulbs - and they aren't cheap. The brighter the projector - the more esoteric and expensive the bulbs are. Whilst LEDs are being used for direct view screens (where their light is concentrated over a small area of less than 1cm2 - I don't think they are used as projection sources where their light is spread across screens more than 1m2)

Don't forget that the best way to shorten a light bulb's lifetime is switching on and off (heating and cooling quite simply), as well as moving them when they're hot (OH such a bad idea!). So keeping them on for long periods might actually pay dividends lifetime wise.

I think the poll is a tad redundant now, isn't it? Smile

I dont know. It is interesting to look at it and see that only 2 people (the lowest percentage) got it right!

Looks like a fairly major power cut at TVC.

5 Live in semi-taped programmes, and BBC1 went green for a few seconds during Carol's weather forecast, so they had to cut back to Bill and Sian talking through emails from ages, and missed the regional opt.

24 News blank.

yes it does - BBC World is showing a recorded bulletin, with RECORDED Dog.

News24's back. Is BBC World News live again?

Radio 5Live is currently mute on DSAT and MW...

There was no regional opt at 0757 because of communications problems - which presumably was the loss of the regional talkback system that Presentation or News use to cue the opts...

5 Live has been back on medium wave for ages now but still silent on DSAT.

I'm surprised how well they've done actually - expected all the regions on DSAT would be lost immediately.. And looks like they didn't have autocue for several of the stories..
