I think you should look at it being one set with different areas rather than 3 different sets ...
Have seen the new astons now ... all I can say is think evolution rather than revolution
Also someone mentioned pilots - these are always 'offline' things - it means all the teams can use the set/new graphics/gallery etc without it being on air.

I seriously cannot imagine that they would have a dedicated breaking news studio - just too awkward. Breaking news stretches production values as it is, without having to entirely relocate your presenters to another part of the studio. Seems almost folly if it's true.

I'd have to agree, it's looks kind of pretty, but it still doesn't appear to have the gravitas of Sky News, just looks like a pokey little room. Instead of separate areas for breaking news and other stuff, why not just open the studio out even more. Bigger is better has always been my philosophy.

What is going to be in the Breaking News studio anyway, perhaps it will be like the Big Brother reward room and have a theme. If there's a terrorist attack, John Sopel and Jane Hill will go running into the room to find it decorated with effigies of Bin Laden & Saddam.

Out of interest, in todays Press Gazette article featuring BBC News 24, it says that because of launch difficultys prior to the last few launches they will be some pilots done.

Quote:
With the original launch bedevilled by technical glitches, News 24 is running three 90-minute pilot shows before the relaunch on 1 December.

Correct me if I am wrong but does that statement, not mean that during the weekend BBC News 24 in the temporary studio will hand over to the New studio three times over the weekend.

It's extremely unlikely. Pilots are generally not shown on TV, it's more likely the pilot will be seen either by a panel of people or perhaps shown to TV Centre staff to see what they think.

As for the wall at the back MoD- having an entire perspex/glass backing from floor to ceiling may have been judged a little excessive...plus the wall they've built behind the presenters is lit white by uplighters- it may well be lit red during breaking news (although I think it would be cooler if the desk was lit red rather than white during breaking news).

Lol, if the desk lit up, all they'd need is sirens and for someone to parachute in to hand the presenter the all important breaking news.

I don't think I'd have glass from top to bottom.. I'd probably have that transparent red stuff going along the bottom instead of a wall. But looking at it again, I dont think it is a wall is it? It looks more like frosted glass, if it is, it could look a lot better lit up. I dont see lights around the edge but it may be that they are placed on the other side of the frosty wall, or again, it's unfinished.

I'm sure my opinion of the studio will change come the relaunch. I'm just being picky I suppose. But there's definately no excuse for a yellow/orange-black ident/logo and a red & white set. It could be better if adjustments were made to the logo - a white 24 instead of yellow, red swirls instead or orangey red, and (if it had to be black) something dark animating in the background.

It seems lately that Lambie Nairn and his people idents seem to follow the same design trend. We get the people shots and then the logo and background kind of spread in from the sides, over these shots. It's happened already with the Sci-Fi channel and now with UK Gold and UKG2.

I can imagine the News 24 idents doing that. The rings around the "24" either zoom to the centre from the outside or the inside, the "24" appears and the shapes begin to rotate in different directions.

If you don't know what I mean, go to Lambie-Nairn and look at the Sci-Fi idents and watch UK Gold and see how the logo and background eventually appear on-screen.

It's just a theory, which probably won't happen because I think it looks slightly amateur.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of studio lights, or are there still more to put up?

The "24" in the above image seems to have a garish green tinge to it - lets hope the colours don't alternate as well! Confused

With all this lighted plastic they won't need any lights. It's looking like a space ship already.

The desk kind of reminds me of the game Kerplunk (hasn't it been renamed now?) Surely the presenters will end up losing their marbles at the sight of their new surroundings...

That blue square behind the presenters ? Is that their attempt at a Sky Videowall ?

I bet this videowall is elsewhere perhaps to the right or left of the shot there. Or maybe it just one of those screens to the right/left of that picture.

Edit: I'm surprised there hasn't been any ads about this. Giving that there is a bit of attention, even on News Online, I thought that the channel would at least have an ad about it. Or is that to come? lol
