To completely dismiss something on about 3 or 4 photos is just plain wrong.

I think people are just giving their thoughts based on the latest info and images. The launch could be fantabulous and we may all say it's marvellous, but that doesn't make those images any better.

It's hard for me not to say how stupid the black/orange logo in a white/red studio looks because they are supposed to be professionals, and those professionals are supposed to hire professionals to do the right job.

If I had to choose a set designer out of the whole world, would I choose someone who designed the ITV News set? Unlikely.

Although it's not the best in the world, I like the national news set BETTER than this one. Why couldn't they duplicate that set in the layout they've used here? Instead, it looks like another news channel trying to copy the national set.

There are little things television companies do wrong, but most of the time it grows on you. This aint.

I really want to be proved wrong on the day!

I don't quite understand why everyone's so up in arms about the "orange" logo looking bad on a red and white set. In my opinion it doesn't - if the logo was white there would be too much bright white on the set. It would stand out too much.

It looks like a very red "orange" anyway from what we can see in the pictures.

And anyway, it is far too early to make any sort of judgement about the relaunch - all we have seen is a few pictures. You haven't seen how the set works in action, you haven't even seen it on a television screen yet.

You also say that "most of the time it grows on you. This ain't". How can it possibly have had time to grow on you yet anyway? The pictures have only been up for a couple of days, and as I say you haven't seen the set on TV yet.

And they are not trying to "copy" the national set - they have adapted the new "corporate" look to suit the channel.

Simon Jago designed the Channel 4 News set, which has been acclaimed by many forumers; he is design ing the new ITV News set, not the current one.

Hey, does anyone here have any clips of an old Tyne Tees show, The Ro xy ?

I happen to like the new set, it's bright and fresh and doesn't show too much of the newsroom (you don't want to see the Abbatoir every time you go into the Butcher's do you?)

The logo is "ok", but may look completely different once it's animated. I remember the Sky Premier logo from 1998 looking awful when shown as a static in the Sky Mag; but it was great when annimated with those women leaping off suspended platforms! Totally different to what I expected.

I think that even though the BBC have designed these "in-house" they will be decent - why pay Martin Lambie-Nairn to do it if you can do it yourself.

I can't wait until Monday !! Shocked

It looks snazzy, but a bit tiny at the same time.

Makes the Sky newsroom look positively vast.

I seriously cannot imagine that they would have a dedicated breaking news studio - just too awkward. Breaking news stretches production values as it is, without having to entirely relocate your presenters to another part of the studio. Seems almost folly if it's true.

Very much like the whole "fresh" and non-traditional look that they have gone for, and it does give it a more youthful feel, but still think that black logo is hideously out of place in a very white environment.

Thats fine but that doesn't change my opinion so far. Like I said, I may end up saying its great on the relaunch, but my favourite is Sky News because they dont tart up the set with bright colours. The set looks part of the newsroom, not a part. You can clearly see people working close to the presenters in the background, on N24 they'll probably just be blurred people walking around.

I can see what the set looks like, I can see the logo, they don't match in my present opinion (which may change on the relaunch).

The set designer may well be designing the new ITV News set, no doubt it will be an improvement on the current one. But I haven't seen it yet, and based on his past work, I wouldn't have chosen him for News 24.

My oppinion could change, but I have the right to say what I feel at the present moment and thats what I'm doing.

I'd much rather go without a bright red and white wall, so I can see everything going on in the newsroom. I'd rather have red and white on the graphics than in the set.

I've just thought - that blue screen behind them in the photos, do you reckon that might be used to display a red 'breaking news' graphic. Could work well with a tight shot of the presenters? Looks a little like the one on Sky (although perhaps a little less in-your-face, which can only be a good thing!)

I think people are reading too much into the "bodged" background on the photos- they were taken before the full rebuild was complete....the left hand side picture looks the same as the current set that they're projecting in TC10....I honestly don't think they expect people to pick up on such minute details from the press shots- they're just designed to give a general impression.

Don't forget, they're not showing 2/3rds of the new studio i.e. the majority and you're seeing stills taken during testing.

As for the wall at the back MoD- having an entire perspex/glass backing from floor to ceiling may have been judged a little excessive...plus the wall they've built behind the presenters is lit white by uplighters- it may well be lit red during breaking news (although I think it would be cooler if the desk was lit red rather than white during breaking news).

MoD- why would the view into the newsroom be blurred? The only reason why it's like that on the national is because it's not real, and so you have to blur the image because it's generated and not that detailed (i.e the faces of people in the background etc.) The new news 24 set is just glass- there can be no blurring (other than the background being in distant focus while the presenter is in main focus)

Oh and definitely quote of the day from Roger Mosey:

“We’ve learnt from Sky, but didn’t copy it — we’re going for impact with taste,”
