Wow! It looks fab! Cant wait!

I wonder if/when BBC News (the 1, 6, 10 etc, on BBC One) will change it's titles. Let's face it, since they changed the network news studio set, the tired cream titles don't match it, so something more like the forthcoming N24 titles must be on the way, surely?

That desk looks like a plastic tub. If I had to read the news there, I'd be trying to store my beans in the fridge in it.

I've held back with the comments so far, but the black of what I presume are the titles is just wrong.

Well one thing is for sure about those photos - it don't half show off that new air conditioning system!!!

Hmmm not sure what I think. Probably looks so bright because of those photos. Should look better when its lit properly. The titles don't go at all though. Why use red on the set and then orange on the titles?

Anyway we shall see. Whats making me think is the background. Over the far side of the news centre there is what looks like a big screen coloured blue. Perhaps this might be where the briefings take place?

I like the light along the front of the desk. I must get some kleenex before Monday/

Looks like the front of the see-through desk has a "square" section of different texture- probably where the news 24 logo will go.

Those pictures really make it look like the studio properly opens up on both sides for a 2nd and 3rd set, but it could all be mirrors!

Also looks like the background is in three parts which I think reflects the temporary nature when they the pictures were shot.... I expect on monday we'll see one continuous newsroom, (admittedly painted at the back to make it look bigger). One thing's for certain with all these pre-relaunch pictures they have released, they don't want us to see anything other than the main studio for now...presumably saving the stand up presentation area for launch day.

Out of interest, in todays Press Gazette article featuring BBC News 24, it says that because of launch difficultys prior to the last few launches they will be some pilots done.

Quote:
With the original launch bedevilled by technical glitches, News 24 is running three 90-minute pilot shows before the relaunch on 1 December.

Correct me if I am wrong but does that statement, not mean that during the weekend BBC News 24 in the temporary studio will hand over to the New studio three times over the weekend.

As it would give them a trial to make sure it goes ok, but also to get viewers familiar with it and not think that it magically appeared monday morning.

Am I reading too much into this?

I think I have to say this is probably one of the worst sets / titles news 24 have ever had. The titles look bad, the black makes them look incredibly bland, looks like an armadillo, and it certainly doesn't suit a 24 hour news channel. The set is mostly made of translucent plastic and looks way too similar to the National News set - now the national news set is good, but it just starts getting silly when bbc news 24 copy it. What can I say - I huge disappointment; I dont think even the best music that David Lowe will be able to produce will counter this hideous monstrosity. This is what happens when you try and do a job in-house.

What? Have I missed something? Has News 24 relaunched already?

We haven't even seen the titles, how they work or even what they have in store for the studio.

Even the most strong BBC-bashers have managed to hold back and reserve judgement until we've seen the full package!!

OK, I've said it looks good - and I may well be taking that back on Monday but to completely dismiss something on about 3 or 4 photos is just plain wrong.

It's extremely unlikely. Pilots are generally not shown on TV, it's more likely the pilot will be seen either by a panel of people or perhaps shown to TV Centre staff to see what they think.

I think people are just giving their thoughts based on the latest info and images. The launch could be fantabulous and we may all say it's marvellous, but that doesn't make those images any better.

It's hard for me not to say how stupid the black/orange logo in a white/red studio looks because they are supposed to be professionals, and those professionals are supposed to hire professionals to do the right job.

If I had to choose a set designer out of the whole world, would I choose someone who designed the ITV News set? Unlikely.

Although it's not the best in the world, I like the national news set BETTER than this one. Why couldn't they duplicate that set in the layout they've used here? Instead, it looks like another news channel trying to copy the national set.

There are little things television companies do wrong, but most of the time it grows on you. This aint.

I really want to be proved wrong on the day!

News 24 revamp boosts analysis
Leigh Holmwood
27 November 2003 08:30

The BBC's former media correspondent Nick Higham is to present a new nightly analysis slot on BBC News 24 as part of the channel's revamp which goes live on Monday (1 December).

Higham, who left his media brief earlier this month after stating he was "under-employed", will become the channel's "chief analyst", fronting the thrice daily Nick Higham's Fact File, in which he will explain in more detail the major story of the day.

"It will look at where the facts are in the story and it will encourage people to ask questions more," said BBC head of television news Roger Mosey.

The move is part of a bid to inject more analysis into the channel following the Lambert report into its workings last year.

Other changes include making more use of the BBC's network of 1,200 regional journalists and the breaking of more local stories.

A new set - designed by Simon Jaygo who also worked on Five and Channel 4's new looks as well as ITV's upcoming revamp - will feature three zones with state-of-the-art digital projection screens and space for presenters to move around. One of the zones will be used to present breaking news while viewers will be alerted by new graphics and sounds.

Mosey said the revamp would update the channel - which costs around £50m a year - although it would keep its more upmarket feel. "We want to be the best recognised and the best quality news channel in the UK," he said.

News 24 currently pulls in a weekly reach of 4.2 million multichannel viewers compared with 4.8 million for Sky News and 2.3 million for the ITV News Channel. In the report - ordered by media secretary Tessa Jowell - former Financial Times editor Richard Lambert called on the channel to give more time to foreign stories, make more use of its regional resources and break more news.
