The National Music was the first of the lot and it's actually fine. It does the job and I think changing it would already it's already dramatic intro.

Yes, OK, the music doesn't need changing but I think the opening titles need to be brought into line with the studio. The titles are still custard and red colours, whereas the 1/6/10 studio is not. It's more like white, red and blueish.

The News 24 music should be less dramatic as if it's dramatic all the time it gets annoying! Perhaps they should have more dramatic music for breaking news?

Maybe N24 should have a specific 'Newshour' where they round up the day's stories and do a similar programme to the 1/6/10. They could save their 'dramatic' music for this programme and News Specials. Also, why don't they carry BBC World/BBC Four News? It would get a better exposure in the UK if it was on N24 as well.

I think they don't air BBC Four News on N24 because if you have N24, you'll probably have BBC Four, so there isn't any point. World probably only carry it because its set is parked in the World newsroom, so they haven't got much choice. With two channels carrying it, it's nice to be able to go to News 24 if you want rolling news.

True, but it's only a half-hour long isn't it?

Is it my imagination - I don't usually watch at this time - but do World show this programme twice, while it's joined by BBC Four only once?

BBC Four News goes out on both BBC Four and BBC World at the same time 8pm Mon-Fri. That's usually the only time it goes out. It was repeated once at 9pm on World when they had problems with their set.

Yeah well I'm sorry I can't satisfy your need for perfect posts but being up and working since 7am this morning has it's downsides.

I have the greatest of sympathy for your long working day, but please don't start picking a fight. I didn't ask for a perfect post, I simply asked what you meant as I didn't find it clear.

It did go out twice a night for a four week period in the summer. This was because of the proms being shown live on BBC4. It want out at 7pm on BBC4 and World and at 8pm on World only.

Ah that's right, it did. They moved Sport Today to an hour earlier, so they had time before 7pm to prepare the BBC Four set.

Newsroom said earlier that David Lowe has produced new music, so maybe there's a new and improved headline bed in there, with a little more substance and urgency.

Well Mr Newsroom said told me about Christmas that Mr Lowe had created new music - yet to hear it[/quote]

I met David in February and he told me he had been asked to REWORK the News 24 material for later this year. He hadn't started it because he hadn't been given the brief. So this is the reason you haven't heard it. Only a few more weeks and all will be revealed. new set, new titles, new music, new format - how will be cope.

Perhaps there is a change in store for the National News music as well. Lets face it, it's been in service for a good few years now. We know that the titles will change sooner or later, so perhaps there will be a tweak to the music as well.

I didn't think it was worth starting a new thread for, so I'll put it here.

They just showed the full 90 second countdown on News 24. I thought at first it was a mistake and that at any moment they would interrupt it for another trailer, but they didn't.

I'm sure someone will start a thread on it. Wink

Everyone knows that Newswall = Sky and Sky = Newswall.

And why is that? Sky constantly have it in-shot almost all the time so it's one of the channel's most dominant features presentationally. What I'm suggesting is that IF News 24 got such a device then they'd be wiser to use (and show) it only when needed; a tool to cover selected stories in a different way.

I'm certain after all their bellyaching about not wanting to appear like Sky, they'd want to make it their own somehow (I can just see it now..."Screen 24" - urgh).

c@t posted:

For News 24 to say "we're going to be more distinctive" and relaunch with a giant newswall would be laughable, and they'd (yet again) get slaughtered in the press.

I agree completely! The problem is that too often we (especially crappy newspapers) shout about how something is being presented over the substance of the material - a distinction that's far simpler to make I suppose.

Anyway, AFAIK, Sky fears of a News 24 newswall are unfounded.

True indeed (and there was me initially thinking you hadn't read the article). It's also worth pointing out that whatsisface from the Six hasn't even started his review of the channel yet.
