there must be another "standing-up" presenting area, presumably with a bigger screen.

This is the case, yes.

I hope it's incorporated into that part of the set, so that we'll be able to see wide shots of the presenters walking over there, unlike the previous second set which - for all the viewer knew - could have been on a different planet from the main one!

LOL, isn't it funny how Rod has become the insider for this whole thread. Inside information direct from the pixies and fairies in the back garden.

Oh and yes, I don't like laptops on news either. They look ridiculous on Midlands Today on that coffee table. The Sky News black keyboards with screen into the desk are much sexier affairs.

Agree about laptops - always look a bit sloppy. But incidentally Midlands Today don't use the laptops during the main 6.30 programme when there are a lot of double headed shots - but they are on the shorter bulletins but you don't really see them much.

Presumably this will be opposite the desk, as with the old second set. But does this therefore mean that all other bulletins (sport, business etc) have to use separate broadcast areas (or stand in front of the big screen that has replaced the second set)? I'm not too sure about an extra presenter (or even studio guest for that matter) perching on the side of the main desk, especially as it looks as if it is raised

I love the new set design, it looks fab.

I think having laptops look better, I think they are there to give the impression to the viewer that they are watching the news and it's constantly updated.

Also in practical terms they need computers accesable, as i'd assume if it was 'projected onto some where (there computer stuff) this could become visiible to the public .

Also i'd like to point out tp those people who have never presented in a studio before that sometimes you can't always see beyond the cameras because of the light. Yes you know the stuff they need to light you up like an xmas tree fairy. Razz

So where would they put these 'projected' computers for them to use.

There's plenty of space in N8 for several areas - in the old set up, the second set was opposite the main set, and the weather CSO screen was to the side. So, if they've kept roughly the same layout, they could use that area for the stand-up presenting? Don't know where sport/business will be coming from - until now, business has been presented from N8 itself, while sport came from a tiny set plonked right in the midst of the sports newsroom, a short walk from News 24. It would be nice if they could have sport and business presented from N8, so the news presenters could throw properly to them, rather than cutting from one studio to another.
