If you had the picture, you'd probably be disappointed. It's only two inches square, and half of it is taken up with Jon Sopel.

If only I had a picture of the studio - even if it was a blurred one Sad oh well. If this was Sky News we'd have had images posted ages ago! Smile

They're great mocks, MoD but the World one looks awful... the text just doesn't work in that colour in that font on that graphic.

One thing about this logo is that it does have elements similar to the screens shown on the National (that came in with the new studio, but don't match the titles). Looks like this is the new look, then.

I think people should reserve their judgement on it until we've seen it in action - it's just not fair to say its a disappointment until then! People always pre-judge things when all we have are a few scraps of pictures and information on this forum. Then, when the relaunch happens the majority of those people change their opinions in some way.

Don't judge a book by it's cover!

Maybe, but the thing is, you usually can judge a book by its cover... The image is probably the equivalent to this image:

http://www.lambie-nairn.com/uploads/images/1830177055.jpg

which is at the end of the the current titles.

The new logo just looks sooo in-house... the way they just stick 'BBC News' in white on the bottom (compare that to the image above... the 'BBC News' logo looks PART of the design, it looks integrated, not so with the image we've been kindly given from Ariel)

Edit: You can see some of the sets that the new News 24 set designer has designed previously here... some promising, some scary (i.e. Channel 5's 100%, Open House With Gloria Hunniford and the current ITV News set)... they did come up with the original and innovative Channel 5 News set though...

I doubt it - the image we're looking at is most likely just the logo. They wouldn't just use a still from the titles to grab the logo.

But what I mean is don't judge the whole package by simply a picture of the logo. People will be in a much better position to weigh up the good and bad points (whether that will include the titles/logo I don't know) once they've seen everything working, and make a judgement based on it all. There's no point dismissing the whole relaunch as bad now just because you don't like a single shot of the logo, which some people seem to have already done.

Just to add - obviously it'll win News Channel of the Year thanks to this. That is unless Sky come up with something pretty spectacular come their revamp in the very near future.

Good to see you're getting your excuses in early c@t! As I have said on numerous occasions (and you continue to not address), how can the RTS give an award of "News Channel of the Year" to a channel that has falsified a major syndicated report on the news story of the year? That leaves News 24 or ITVNC, and I think that result is a forgone conclusion...relaunch or no relaunch

Hope so... but wouldn't the relaunch have been a great opportunity to use the new format logo (the red boxed one) instead of the original 1997 standard one...

The new logo looks plainer than the current one... why does it seem that the BBC start with a great design concept and then over the years, water it down with blandness? Why don't they make 3d astons (like they do in the US) instead of boring blocks of red and black? Isn't that the done thing anymore?

I know but I'm not sure how they're going to do it. I hate the use of yellow on that new ident. I only just told someone the other day on the mocks forum that his yellow 24 would never be used by the BBC.

I know we should reserve judgement for the actual day but going on this new image, it's dissapointing so far. They've been telling us it's going to be white with china red all over the place, then an orange and black logo smacks us in the face. How long before this gets boring and they need to change it again?

They said before that people were looking at the graphics too much and not enough on the news. And what are they having now? Full screen breaking news/breaking wind animations - meaning it'll probably be a big bang or something that will frighten the living daylights out of everyone.

They said in the end the logo is on a black background so it could be that it will be used on-screen like that. Maybe not eh?

I think 3D went out of fashion a while ago. It's starting to come back in, but to be honest I think America is quite backwards in it's style of design, compared to the UK.

I've noticed that BBC News as a whole is moving gradually towards the same theme, and I personally am not as keen on it as the 'old' look. The first programme in the 'new' style was the BBC Four News, followed by Reporters and This Week on BBC World, now the BBC 1 summaries, and seemingly News 24. They all have a plain background colour - black or white, with either red, blue or orange in the foreground, forming odd shapes.

I wonder if this is the new face of BBC News?

I loved the original News 24 astons and then the second one with the bright red line that looked illuminted... looked very newsy...

Are these done by Lambie Nairn?

They've had a good set designer in for this one. I have no doubt it will look good as the man has Channel 4 News, ITN News Channel, ITN's General Election 97, You Bet, Channel 5 News and London Tonight's studios just to name a few.

They're all pretty clear and simple, but effective - no doubt that this new modern "full of glass" studio will be just that. Should be good.

I am one that likes the new style BBC News has taken - the first corporate look felt too busy and the titles were generally a bit of a mish mash. The designs they are taking are much cleaner and defined.

Really if you think about it - Sky's titles are very boring. Just a few shots of a globe and an animation of a 3D logo at the end. Pretty boring and simple...and yet effective.
