So basically, if N24's set is awful, expect an awful ITV News relaunch as well

Unlike the Ten O'Clock News set, the newsroom is a real, not a virtual one. It was designed by Simon Jago, who also designed Channel 4 News and is working on a relaunch of ITV News next year.

From that article:
"We won't be doing anything like skateboarding ducks underwater. If anything, our agenda will stay the same."
Now that is a real shame - I wanted more of that.
The new-look service, which launches on Monday, will highlight the big stories and house pundits such as the Guardian's David Aaronovitch and the Times' Janet Daley more effectively in the schedule."
Just a minor point - isn't Janet Daley from the Telegraph?

'fraid the logo will be red and orange, but the newsroom will be real and not virtual, like on the national set.

They said bigger text, but now they're saying taking up less of the screen. This can only mean that they're not putting as much info on the screen at the same time.
If you look at the 1/6/10 desk, it's a frosted plastic base with a white illuminated interior which make the frosted bit look white. Presumbaly they're using the same design with a red interior.

The big screens look very smart (and expensive!). The projectors for them are on the ceiling.
The backdrop is real, although there's what can only be described as a painting on the back wall of the newsroom, to make it look bigger.

Yep - there is a shot of Jon Sopel perched on the new desk.
Think One/Six/Ten desk, but elliptical and with a shiny red base rather than frosted white. Looks like the desk is supported on a white frosted illuminated rostrum / floor as well.
Laptops rather than wireless keyboards it seems - and a large suspended screen (looks similar to the holoscreen used by World on the Sport Today set - but difficult to tell from a small photo)
Can't tell if the backdrop is real or projected from the photo - though it looks quite blurred.

I think if Simon Jago is doing both News 24 and ITV News it will look good, because Simon Jago made a good job of the C4 News set.

Even more strangely, David Aaronovitch is now at the Independent - bit of a bleedin' stupid mistake for the Guardian to make about a writer who left last month!!!
