Here's a random idea: what about using the BBC News red globe in the titles, but having it rendered based on where the major stories are taking place that hour? Would be quite nice...
Ariel, today posted:
For the first time, titles and 3-D graphics will be rendered live, with a fresh headline circling the globe every hour, the globe tilted to show the part of the world where the big story’s happening.
THEY STOLE MY IDEA!! I should have copyrighted it
It does sound nice though, and I hope whoever is responsible for it knows their geography, could be some pretty embarrassing moments otherwise...
Speaking of tired, frosty and boring, when can we expect a c@t relaunch?
Never. I intend to remain miserable and grouchy until the end of time.
Can't see how using "Sky News Live" swooshes and noisy breaking news animations is actually going to make it more distinctive. As it stands, they are very obviously Sky concepts; I think going down that way risks News 24 looking even more like Sky.
We already know they are going for breaking news animations, newswalls, etc. May backfire on them.
Their demographic is older and more conservative (with big and small 'c') so whizz-bang presentation may result in all of the old folks homes having to switch News 24 off for fear of the pensioners wetting themselves.
In truth, though, (and it may be sad to say) Sky will always have Murdoch. If it has a serious impact (and it's certain to have some) he just wouldn't let it stay that way.
so BBC World is changing on Dec 1st along with News 24? I hope it turns out well.
I don't think anything drastic will happen to the studio.
I hear News24's new desk is like the BBC One desk in style, oval, with the News24 logo on the front against a dark background. Prob see summat similar for the World Newsroom.
So when will BBC World change their set, will BBC World News be in a temp setup or something over the weekend?
BBC World are not changing their set, although I gather a rebrand is on the cards for one of the sub sets in the new year.
Well I wonder which news provider is going to bring us the most important "Breaking News" on monday. Will we see BBC News 24 finally manage to beat Sky, or will they retain the position.
Hope it's BBC.
I'm rather looking forward to this relaunch. Unfortunatly I no longer have SKY where I live, cannot get Freeview. So would someone be able to get any video/captions of the set and any breaking news stings for those that cannot access it when it relaunches on Monday.
Many Thanks in Advance.
FOX (1st Post on here)
(sorry for the writing - I'm just
Oh well, ntl decided to break for the evening so I missed out on all the fun. Does sound pretty good, but can't help but think some of the ideas are coming from elsewhere...maybe not Sky but the fact they were told to be distinctive does not mean to copy anyone but Sky and hope we won't notice!!
Still, I am looking forward to it - as anyone should be. This is what will make or break the channel. Will the man that brought us Huw to the six and the ten pull it off? I'm not sure, but they will certainly be in a stronger position if they've told those presenters to lighten up!
Still, the titles do sound rather nice - and will probably end up being the nicest looking and probably most impressive of the news channels at the moment. As nice as Sky's 3D globe is - having it spin for a while and then a short logo animation doesn't exactly leave you in awe.
Oh, and can I be first to point out that CNN and Sky have have/had full screen breaking news graphics. But they can copy the channels all they like, if they sort out the presenters and their news agenda.
Back to the BBC relaunch, I wonder what effect this will have on Weekend 24 and Breakfast on Sunday? Bill and Sian are going to have such fun with the new set - I can't wait to hear their comments on it! As I don't have digital TV, Breakfast is the only real chance I get to see the new set in action.
The new set sounds really great - I like the idea of all the glass, and being able to see the real newsroom in the background. I can envisage a situation where the weekend set for Breakfast is going to be better than the weekday one - I hope Dermot and Natasha don't get too jealous!
By the way, will the overnight World simulcasts continue to come from the World studio or will they come from News 24?
