I much prefer the BBC News 24 ident to the World version, sounds and looks so much better.
I doubt very much whether it would be a shock to World viewers. Do you jump up in outrage when you see a CNN Domestic ident/graphic on CNN International? I think not.
I expect it makes international viewers realise that the BBC is providing another service to the UK - that's all. A better service at that.

Because I have satellite and don't get local PBS stations, I just noticed today that the Long Island PBS station, WLIW21 had been broadcasting BBC World for days now…I've never heard of that happening before…unfortunatly I can't tape it because my ariel thing won't work with my VCR…too bad…

The joint News 24/World service at 5pm BST was intentional, because it was presented by a correspondent from New York rather than from the news studio. When she finished her stories and said 'now back to the news studio in London', WORLD handed back to Anita McNaught in the World Studio rather than whoever was anchoring News 24 at the time. Yes, they did show the News 24 titles (and I must admit I've not seen them before anywhere else except in a RealMedia clip) but there was no mentioned of 'a joint service' or 'This is BBC News'.
I disagree with c@t though...I don't think it makes international viewers realised the BBC is providing another service because there was simply no hint of the bulletin being shared with News 24 at all, apart from the News 24 titles.

Alekf, how did you manage to get 'BBC America / BBC World' as your BBC News region...there's no such option in the profiles section. I want to know how you did it though...cos I want to do it too!

BBC World received many many emails and calls of thanks from all over the world, and in particular from Americans in America for being the only news provider (in their opinion) who gave an international and unbiased perspective to the weeks events. Many commented at the moving pictures of the Changing of the Guard, and felt comfort that the world was with them in spirit.
Hundreds of millions (no exageration) of additional homes have had access to BBC World this week, and the website and video streams had record numbers of hits.

I just kept the region pull-down menu on N/A and typed in BBC America, BBC World in the text box…I wasn't sure it was going to work at the time, but I thought I'd try it, and it did work……

The joint service was relayed through the News24 studio, they stuck on all the astons and mixed between the different sources. That is why you got News24 titles, nobody thought to change them.
If you were watching at 2000 BST then you would have seen another joint section, but this time they did remember to change them.
Incedently the 1700 was a bit of a mess, the 2000 much much better.
