Hello everybody,

People are complaining about the title sequence of NEWS 24 in which the earth turns from right to left instead of from left to right and that it is wrong. But, I was just thinking: the globe on the lower right corner on CNN also turns from right to left. Am I stupid or do I just see things wrong or is it the right direction?

At a totally random hour, and my first time to see the relaunched News 24, apart from for a few minutes on Monday morning, heres a comparision between Sky and News 24 in terms of news.
However this doesnt really show to much as its an untypical hour because of budjet reaction, but here it is anyway

One thing which stands out is that while Sky were looking at the budget from 2.14 to 2.28, News 24 got 8 stories and the sport in! They also got one Breaking News to Sky's nil!

I generally only get to watch News 24 at tea-time, and during these times they've stopped having the usual business slot - instead a presenter 'interviews' the business person about the business news. I'd rather have it as it was. I also wish Julia Caesar would calm down a bit and stop laughing at herself. She comes across as a dizzy blonde (I'm sure she's not, just comes across that way).

They were complaining about the globe on the DOG, not the titles

I don't think you need to be a geologist to determing whether or not planet earth is rotating the wrong way.

The globe on the clock WAS going the wrong way but it has been sorted.

The globe on the titles is going the correct way.

now i apologise if this has already been mentioned but is it me or are there pictures from regional BBC news programmes on the new N24 countdown. i noticed that two of the picture used in Midlands Today were in there, also the grape picker from Spotlight were in there. IS it just me or are they in there? Confused: Confused: Confused:

Sky have a special budget programme from Westminster, News 24 don't because... shock horror, BBC2 is covering it. This is the problem it's always going to have. It can't be an independent, stand alone news channel like it has to be to operate decently, because it's ability is diluted.

But that surely can't be a bad thing? People have the ability to watch a special budget programme on BBC Two freeing up the news channel to concentrate on other things. That, to me, is more of a blessing for the viewer than Sky who only have the one channel and have to squeeze everything on (even with their interactive service). Either way, there isn't a solution so I think the choice should be welcomed not restricted (or pointlessly duplicated if N24 were to do a similar special programme).

What benefit does having 'lives' all the time serve? If a 2-way done an hour earlier is just as relevant now then what's the point dragging the journalist to a camera to spiel off the same thing? Their time is better served dealing with various other BBC News departments that require their insight or, better still, actually spending time getting information from the scene. The number of times a reporter has come on-screen, been asked "what's the latest" and saying "nothing new" is regular, and pointless.

(By the way, I'm waiting until Friday when I can see the new look on a TV before I comment. Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to upload clips to this thread though!)

But you can argue the same thing about Radio 4 and Radio 5, can't you?

Five Live has been so successful because it's been allowed to operate as a standalone channel. The best thing that could happen to News 24 - and the relaunch has provided the direct opposite - is less integration with the rest of the BBC. Obviously there will still be a requirement for the channel to fall back on the BBC News resources, but the ability to just ignore what was going on with other channels and build up a team of presenters able to operate independently of BBC One/Two would vastly improve its ability.

Balls up at News 24?
Are the news bods at BBC News 24 finding the relaunch tough going? Monkey only asks after an interview with Arsenal and England star Sol Campbell was this morning captioned: Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager.

I wish this 'Media Monkey' would shove its tail up its a**e and shut the feck up...

Phew, got that off my chest.

What *IS* The Guardian's problem? Their constant discrediting of the BBC only turns on them.

If I was the BBC News Editor I would feel so frustrated that as editor of a better, bigger and more respected news organisation than them, I hadn't the forum in which to have a right ruddy go back at 'em...

But then I'm childish like that Wink

But then you'd have people moaning saying that the BBc aren't making enough of their resources and hence are wasting money... any people what BBc News because IT IS BBC News and DOES have the scope and resources it has. For N24 to turn its back on these would only give the 'lesser' rival channels a boost and invite more criticism of the BBC.
