I don't think it works to be honest. Too small, looks nasty where it's placed, and I think it would look a lot better back next to the LIVE aston.

Yep - I guess they have moved the locator to the bottom to stop it clashing with people's heads, and also it did look a bit odd without the LIVE when an interview was repeated. That said I think the typeface is a bit on the small side - maybe if it were in caps it would help?

It seems they've used a small typeface so that longer place names can still fit in above the tower. I still think they should use a larger typeface, and if it's quite a long placename the box could automatically expand across the screen, which should look ok as long as there's an aston next to the tower.

That could make things worse though, if the aston isn't properly lining up with the tower. I noticed this during the world news this morning.

New to the forum and what a refreshing look BBC NEWS 24 have adopted when you step back and think about it. Ok the titles are sometimes a bit jolty and the ticker is a bit flickerey, but these are minor issues. I am not impressed with the ITV News relaunch as I think it is cheap and this has showed.

From what I heard the reason why the ticker looks jerky is the same reason why the opening graphics look jerky - It is rendered live and unlike other news channels is not pre-rendered. I guess this means they can do updates a lot quicker - ie instantly

yeah the titles can be too jerky at times, but I still think the new look from News 24 is fantastic, but I think BBC World need the new white style desk(sorry itsrobert!)

Hmm - there is no reason why rendering live should make it jerky... The jerkiness is just a symptom of using a cheap PC solution rather than something designed to work at broadcast quality...

I think maybe an orange/dark red desk with white internal and uplighting would be more suitable to retain a balance between the titles and studio. Whatever it should be, please not red plastic, that looks fine on N24 but doesn't suit World.

Bit of a shame really - the jerkiness in the opening titles and ticker is one of the few areas the look of the channel is a let down. It's a shame to spoil such a fantastic idea for the opening titles...

(Mind you, I'm not too keen on the tower, either; it's too big, and doesn't work that well when it's on it's own in 16:9. But they were never going to get rid of some form of DOG, and it's certainly better than the previous one, being more integrated with the rest of the graphics.)

It's easier to read lowercase (or Title Case) than UPPERCASE.

I don't like it. Looks rubbish.

Are those two graphics generated by TOG or Big Ted? It's just during the sign zone they get shrunk when the main graphics don't.

Why does BBC News 24 seem intent on un-necessarily titting about with their graphics all the time?

They did it with the old look, for example making the clock bigger so it no longer aligned with the rest of the astons, making the straps go to the bottom of the screen, then making the straps no longer go to the bottom of the screen, making them see-through, making them opaque... The list goes on.

Now they've got a really decent and impressive set of graphics, and they're starting to ruin that as well!

The new location graphic looks terrible - the box doesn't align with the Tower, the text is too small and too low down in the box, and the shade of grey is completely different to anything else on the screen.

My four year old niece could probably have designed better (and that would have had the bonus of pretty stick-on sequins).

I know it's only a little thing, but what's to say that now they've done this, they'll start cocking up more of the graphics as they did with the last look... Maybe they could put the 'LIVE' strap in Zapf Chancery. That'd be nice.

Please News 24, your graphics look great and beat the pants off ITV and Sky. Leave them alone!!!

Well, no actually.

If it's that size, it's far easier to read capitals. You might have a point if it were long sentences - but it's one word most of the time.
