Well can you believe it! An idea was knocking around here last week about a News 24 interactive service (a la SKY News Active) and what happens?!

Can we speculate on what it will look like? And it surely must mean the end of the www.bbc.co.uk DOG!

Full story, along with News 24 clearing their schedules for June, available below:

Of course this would have nothing to do with Sky News have a rather extensive overhaul and launching a new channel at about that time would it?
Of course not, how silly of me!

News 24 interactive has been in the pipeline for quite a while as part of various projects like BBC Digital Text and Online.

Something rather odd about that is they say they don't know what platforms they will be provding it on.
And basically, since Sky launched in the UK in 1989 (bear in mind it was already across Europe when it was bought in 1984) the BBC took an instant dislike, and the two have always been bitter enemies, so the real question is will it go out on Sky Digital boxes at the same time, not sure to be honest, another thing, will it feature the 'Quad' like Sky's?
Anyway, to be honest News24 launching a business bulletin is not really going to worry, Sky, considering they are launching their own business channel.

With the greatest of respect Asa, why did you start a new thread with a link to a story on Produxion that I had already done in another News24 thread?

The BBC quite clearly states it does not favour one digital provider from another and makes all its services available on all digital platforms. This is clearly spelt out on the BBC digital website. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

It may well do that, but it is a well known fact within the media world that the Beeb hates Sky and Sky hates the Beeb, there simply is no arguement around that.

That is true, they dont get along but they dont let it get in the way of business as both companies know that they need each other. Sky subsciption would suffer if it did not allow the BBC to broadcast as people would use other digital providers which do have BBC services. On the other side the BBC would lose out if i didnt broadcast on sky due to sky's better digital service.

Funny how long it took SKY News getting interactive from their launch compared with BBC News 24 going interactive from their launch.

You can't blame other news channels for taking up similar ideas when the technology becomes available. Who cares less if 'SKY News did it first'?? Does this automatically mean that no-one else can?

And I'll go mad if they put their 'press red for active' DOG in the bottom right-hand corner!!

Well obviously Sky News could not go interactive when they launched or even in 1998 when SkyD launched as the technology for something like the 'Quad' was not around then, and I know a guy who works for SNA, and even he said that the technology was very new.
And of course they will, I mean, the BBC would have to complete the screen with DOGS, I mean so far on the DOG front we have:

BBC NEWS 24 in the corner
the clock
the FTSE
The Website
and Jane Hill.

So another one would look just great.
And of course it is to do with Sky relaunching Asa, you were in the chatroom the other night, the BBC will be scared to death about what Sky are planning, and I never said no-one else could do it, hence the fact that both ITN and Bloomberg and Simply Money have all done it.
They will talk about their interactive service as much as they can, and of course during breaking news it will be the main topic of coversation when they can think of nothing else, did you see that hoax bomb alert outside the White House today, provided a good practice for both channels, well a good practice for one at least, the other seemed to have left town.
