I think the idea of a sound for breaking news is taken from Fox News, although not the animation.
As for the look of the astons the thing that most confused me was why on earth did they change BBC1 to the horrible purple ones too?
My first thought when I saw the News24 astons was 'ugh'. I was fully expecting the News24 astons to be replaced with the BBC One astons, oddly they did it the other way round!

The sound is actually quite useful on Sky, it has become a sort of reflex that whenever I hear the sound I look at the Tv, odd but very effective!

Yeah I agree with you their VIP, that sound really does catch the attention, I don't think BBC News 24 will put sound of their astons!

I'm surprised! I realised that I watch Sky News more than BBC News 24!

Its Chesh! He's brainwashing me! Turning me in to a Sky News lover. HELP! Wink Only joking.

I do think Sky News is just better than News 24. Sky News is on in our house a lot anyway. My Dad is an avid watcher and has been since 1989 and I think the relaunch has convinced me to watch Sky News more!

Do Sky News still do the dramatic 'breaking news' noise and animation with the new (and not as good) smaller astons? I've not really watched this week, too much work!

Yes they do.
I have only really seen one breaking news aston recently though.
Mainly because I have not been in during the day.
But the last time I saw them use it was yesterday, with the airstrikes in Iraq... this story was in fact totally missed by the BBC until 6.20pm.
They story broke on Sky at 1.45pm and on CNN at 2pm.

as i said the airstrikes in iraq are a daily event and probably not considered an important event. anyway british forces are not allowed to return fire in iraq, america always does it.

Yes but airstrikes which kill 23 people and injure 11 others are not common events.
The fact that the BBC still got to the story at 6.20pm does show that it is still important, if they bothered to put it up, but why it slipped through the net is a mystery.
And anyway, if it was so regular why would every major network (except the BBC) go out of its way to break the story?

well sometimes its just the odd AAgun or SAM site that gets attacked but as there was quite a few deaths it validates the story. i didnt see any news yeaterday. i understand what you mean. the BBC are getting a bit slack.

If they want to do this type of thing, they need to redevelop the aston, i've never understood why the aston is purple, when the main colours are yellow and china red!

Yeah, I've always thought that too. It'd look soooo much better if the purple bit was red instead.
