What happened:
Midway through a report, the screen went black. After around 30 seconds, the BBC One break in programme caption appeared on BBC News 24 and BBC One [both channels showing same caption.]

During the reports prior to this, the channel was notably running without DOGClock. The following is a Live Update on the situation as it progresses [most likely limited to 2 hours]

Live Updates:

[4:15am] more deatils as they come

[4:20am] We've now had 5 minutes of techfault muzak without any continuity announcement. Still simulcasting on both channels. BBC Two is running fine, with BBC Three & Four already closed for the night. BBC Parliment is ran from a server in Westminister and therefore would be unaffected by any form of powercut.

[4:22am] Annoucement to tell us that: 'This is BBC One. We are sorry that we are unable to bring you the scheduled service from News 24 at the moment, but we are working to overcome the problem and will return to it as soon as possible.'

[4:23am] The announcement now appears to be being looped every minute that the channels are offair.

[4:25am] A different announcement this time, clearly not recorded then. Similar lines... to say that they are sorry for the break in service and they will return as soon as they can.

[4:28am] Click Online is scheduled to begin in 2 minutes time - let's see if they have at very least a working playout server that can be used.

[4:28am] We are told that we are now able to rejoin BBC News 24.... but as of yet, nothing has rejoined, and we are waiting on the caption screen with the muzak.

[4:29am] Was the annoucement pre-recorded? Nothing has rejoined for over a minute now!

[4:31am] Click Online has now missed it's start time, with music running over the caption continuously for around two minutes now [without CA's]. If this has been another powercut, then we will have to wait for westminister to be brought online - an operation which took [in the last powercut] 30 minutes or so, so if this is the case, we should see westminister at 4:45am.

[4:34am] Another track finishes, and it now seems that the music programmed in has ran out. Silence for around 1 minute and then we hear the announcement from earlier, which almost plays itself twice. Was the 'we can now rejoin' announcement the recording of the file to loop. A piece of muzak attempts to begin, but fails, and then we hear another annoucement of 'technical problems'

[4:37am] We hear a short annoucement - literally 'This Is BBC One', before seeing a flash of the opening titles for House Invaders [thankyou Martin]. However, this quickly stops and returns to the caption on both channels.

[4:38am] Click Online is now running, without the dogclock.

[4:40am] The picture is "pillared 4:3 within a 16:9 frame . . ." [thanks DJGM]

[5:00am] Somethings definatley gone wrong at BBC TVC. We are now seeing a feed of BBC World on BBC News 24 which has RECORDED in the top right corner. Click online was rather rapidly faded out to black just before 5am, with BBC Four's caption for closedown appearing shortly before a frozen appearance of the Capeoria BBC One Ident.
The feed of World is in a 4:3 aspect, and I can only guess that it is being shown in a 4:3 frame on widescreen televisions.

[5:25am] We now join the weather, which also has RECORDED stamped on top of it. There were a few sound problems at the beginning of the weather report, but eventually the right fader was turned up and we heard the weather report at normal volume. Up next, we should have 'Earth Report'. Let's see what happens.

[5:29am] It looks as thought BBC News 24 are set to follow the recorded weather through to it's rejoining with News24. And indeed, this is the case. 3:30 is showing on the clock [News 24 recorded from the 3:30 junction], and it looks as thought we may be given Talking Movies once more.

[5:30am] Talking Movies begins. Since we joined the recoded feed of N24 at the 5:27am weather junction, the picture quality has been very low qulaity.

[5:56am] Talking movies has ended, and while there is no 'recorded' tag on screen, it is quite clear that this weather report is just that - it is still very low quality. Breakfast is due to begin at the top of the hour.

[6:00am] After a repeated countdown, we now join a seemingly live feed. The new is being broadcast from what I can only imagine is a CSO studio, as it looks like the BBC World studio before it was redecorated. It is worth noting that there seems to be one camera angle - a very unusual diagonal shot of the newsdesk - which is forcing the female presenter to sit at an unusual angle and is also showing the gap in the desk where the laser printer is set.

[6:05am] It seems that we've now switched to a regional studio, who are handling the main news. Very interesting plan!

[6:08am] Something very unusual is going on! We are back in the world-esque studio. These changes are quite literally running from the end of one news story with a seamless join.

[6:10am] There is now a live linkup with washington, however there are numerous black monitors in the world newsroom. According to Yam, this is also being shown on BBC World.

[6:15am] A rather padded out version of a newspaper readthrough is now being conducted, while a flurry of staff are now arriving in the newsroom in the background.

[6:18am] A globe graphic works its way onto the screen [the News 24 pre-story globe showing where the story is.] There is still no dogclock, and no Breakfast style clock either.

[6:21am] Newsroom watch: A team of two darkly dressed staff walk from the gallery and around the corner rather rapidly - it seems that they are trying to fix something. Meanwhile, a man in a white shirt at the foreground of the newsroom raises his arms amd lowers them again as if to sigh with his arms.

[6:24am] It seems that we are getting the Breakfast diversity of News reports - we are currently seeing a report on a photographer.

[6:26am] We now join a new weather reporter with the weather presenter for the early morning weather [John]. BBC World is currently running on recorded weather. [thanks Steve]

[6:30am] BBC One / News 24 are now showing Reporters. Before this programme begins, the male newsreader tells viewers that:
"It's 6:30. Now on BBC News [pause - almost says 24], due to technical difficulties, we are unable to bring you our scheduled programme, so now..." BBC World is simulcasting the same epsiode of Reporters, having broadcasted the same news stories from the world-esque studio as News 24 and BBC One.
Technical Difficulties are all we will be hearing tonight, then.

-- Note: At this point, I am off to catch the sleep that I have been postponing for two hours. I hope you find this live update useful, and I'll give you a short tip for anyone wanting to continue reading where this ends: I have included information from all pages up to Page 4. --

But is it really 5 mins Late?

If you remember you normally get the presenter telling you the headlines for a while before leading into the programe?

Fair point. They may have simply chosen to wait for the pre-scheduled changeover. However, 8 minutes seems longer than normal.

Also: The aspect ratio is definatley not running correctly.

Usually, it's about 3 or 4 minutes of the latest headlines, then the scheduled feature program starts.
So, as ClickOnline started at 04:39 (give or take a few secs eitherway) it did start about 5 mins late.

Not sure whether I was watching BBC One Scotland or N24 at the time but before Click Online we were treated to a split second of the House Invaders sequence. Anyone else see it? I'm not going mad!

So whats going to happen at 5?

I always thought from XX:00 to XX:27ish was exactly same as News24 hence why they always say bbc news and not news 24. XX:27 is weather and then at XX:30 is a pre-recorded programe.
