North West Today during Breakfast also give a name check, no astons. Then again there are only ever two presenters that read mornings, Tina and Nigel -- quite easy to tell apart. Other than that BBC Manchester only have four newsreaders, all of whom are very familiar faces and don't really need astons. Though of course they get mentioned on the ident.

Quite a small presenting team really. Wales also have a one-presenter format, but there are far more than six readers to choose from.

Reporting Scotland seem to be the only programme to have astons on the main 1830 news.

Strangely, the 1525 update in the North West does have an aston, and Gordon Burns just says 'Good afternoon...'. However, none of the other bulletins, as you said, have the astons.

North West Tonight have a few presenters, a lot of whom are reporters as well we have :-
Grodon Burns
Martin Henfield
Nigel Jay
Peter Marshall
Tina Bangs
Stuart Flinders (reporter)
Carol Lowe (reporter)

And Tony Morris presents his show, and he did a bulletin once as well

What is poor is when there's neither an aston, an ident or a presenter namecheck. Since networked dropped many of the regional idents, Look North sometimes have neither

Since this thread appears to have a regional slant.......

Does anyone know why North West Today have started using the main studio and short titles/stings for the breakfast bulletins instead of the Self-op with no titles?

and... what do the other regions do studio and title wise for the breakfast bulletins?

Not too sure as to why they have done this, but Midlands Today also come from their main studio with titles at Breakfast. I'm glad NWT have adopted this method, as it's much better than a shoddy self-op bulletin with Tina or Nigel clunking their way through!!

Wierd! The problem was that on Look East (Digital Terrestial) it came with the Look East ident then BBC LDN headlines then back to Look East before the opening titles!!!

Well, not quite, don't know if I imagined it but I'm sure I heard the last half-second of the LDN announcement just before the news started!

Yes, you are correct. Smile

You're kidding? He's jumped ships? Who's doing/going to do Inside Out now? Come to think of it, he used to be a regular relief presenter with Stuart Flinders, but he hasn't been on the news for a long time.

Tony Morris, hasn't done much reporting for NWT for a while, as he was doing Inside Out too, but don't forget that people like Peter Marshall are becoming regulars, as it always seems to be him at 10.25pm, but Martin Henfield must be taking it easy now as he's only on at weekends. But the bizzare thing is that I am sure Tony Morris was presenting Inside Out recently.

I didnt know Tony had moved... any way, in reference to the 10:25 bulletin, Martin left soon after michael and peter on the national news, Peter Marshall (a future national newsreader IMHO). So now the schedule runs like this:-

Breakfast :- Tina/Nigel
1 :- Gordon/Stuart
6 :- Gordon/Stuart (MArtin did it a few weeks back)
10:- Peter/Carol

Weekends:- Martin/Nigel
Bank Holidays :-Tina/Peter

The Manchester Evening News related a spat between the BBC and Granada. Tony Morris' final Inside Out airs on Monday and the BBC didn't want him appearing on Granada until that had gone out. Consequently (even though I assume the revamp will go ahead for Monday), Tony will not be co-anchoring GR until Tuesday.
