Not keen on the colours on the BBC One version though. The BBC Two one isn't too bad.

That looks bloody awful. The Shatliffed image in the Coronation Gala box looks cack. The fact it reaches to the edge looks incongruous. Tomorrow is also misspelt in the Casualty box.

It looks as though it could have been made in PowerPoint. Why can't the BBC make decent looking ECPs as well as not shrinking the credits to 1/4 of the screen, instead of one or the other

I think the concept is better, even though the design is lacking in this first example we've seen, and I agree it's rather 'PowerPoint-esque'

I'd never been a fan of ECPs anyway, mainly because most of my viewing is from the PVR.

However, they are also pointers for people towards the catch-up services now they are available for download through Sky/Virgin etc rather than just online. That has been of benefit in the past for me for a programme I would've missed otherwise. So I have reluctantly mellowed in that respect towards ECPs.

This seems like an improvement on what the BBC did before, but I hope it's not the end product.

they are nasty, the 2006 stuff looked well better. Rolling Eyes

Nasty is too generous. These are utterly ghastly.

I'm going to buck the trend and say I don't think they look that bad - they've kept the credits full size, just moving them over - something ITV(1) back in the day never did, and it looks a lot better for it.

The gradients aren't the nicest, and the shatliffed image in one of the boxes doesn't help it, but otherwise I think they're almost nice.

Actually ITV1 did (after the tiny smokey hearts credits) just what the BBC are doing now - having credits in the centre and then shifting them over. It's only since the January rebrand that they have shrunk the credits to a small box.

ITV1 moved the credits to the side pretty much the entire time the channel was ITV1. Confused

I didn't word that very well - what I meant was they squeezed and made the credits smaller in the process of moving them over, which BBC One have avoided.

They didn't. The insisted all their credits were centre justified so that they could crop the left and right in order to move the credits over - this is exactly what the BBC are doing.

Poor positioning of the graphics within the ECP (and 'Tomorow' - oh dear) plus I'm not a huge fan of that gradient... But placing the promo itself to the right hand side is a more positive change. A bit undecided about the transition / wipe.

Critique is correct in that, for the final version of the ITV1 branding, they did modify the ECP design which meant it reduced the size of the credits window, although the extra space wasn't really needed IMO.

For example, here's what it looked like in 2006:

By 2010 it looked like this:
