Read on another forum, supposed insider states regarding BBC One:

Quote:
According to my source

1 - Globe AND Clock BACK
2 - In Vision Continuity BACK ( For reference interviews and castings have been done and a decision in principal has been made)
3 - BLUE set

However, Studio 2A at TVC last Thursday was where they did the final castings for the on screen announcer position.......

They also state this will launch in May.

This may have substance - I read on MediaGuardian months ago that the BBC are planning to scrap the dancers...

Anybody got any news / speculation? It's worth discussing anyway!

and the moon is made of cheese

Quite. To me it's plain bolloxology from a desperate soul seeking adoration from some TV Arkers by feeding their deepest desires for IVC, the globe and a clock.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure there's a hat somewhere I'm not too attached to.

It's not that it is impossible, just that it supposedly wouldn't make sense due to the delays on digital. Given the minimal delay that there is, I personally wouldn't mind the clock being technically a few seconds out. I think it looks nice as an introduction to the news, not to mention the lack of audio. The use of standard idents before the news really does bug me. The silence of the clock made it feel more important somehow.

I've always thought a generic BBC One ident would be good for the news. Perhaps featuring a large BBC ONE logo in the centre of the screen with a blurred background and music which ends (or quietens down) about 5 seconds in.

Hi Dave. The clock was used on both analogue and digital for several years. The delays between analogue and digital platforms is essentially meaningless.

Nobody seriously set their watch by the BBC 1 clock expecting it to be accurate to the millisecond; and even if they did it probably wouldn't have been a matter of life and death that the clock on digital was slightly slow (I'm not being sarcastic honest, I know the argument you mention has been used before).

If the people who used that argument tried to use it as a reason to get rid of the GTS (pips) on Radio 4, it wouldn't wash.

There is no reason why a clock cannot be used as a visual presentation device.

Editorial arguments aside, in vision continuity could not happen on BBCtv now. There is no suitable live studio in the Broadcast Centre and you could not have a continuity announcer who's divorced from the transmission process.

If the BBC wanted in-vision announcers then it's wouldn't really be that difficult to build a studio. Such a studio wouldn't have to be that big or complicated.

True or not,

back or not,

I wouldn't mind seeing in-vision return.

Crickey, the delay is only about 2 seconds for BBC on D-Sat. Dont think too many people will loose a lot of sleep over that.

Yes......it seems a bit speculative! There is probably no way the BBC (a world class broadcaster) would opt for on-vision announcers when all the others have given up using them. Also, I find it hard to believe that they would revert back to globe and clock after sensationally ditching them four years ago.

It is no secret at all that a rebrand is looming on BBC1 but I would rather wait and hear fact rather than drivel! Dan suggested that the rebrand may launch before the autumn, so Dan and marksi are people who know, so if these guys say that in-vision announcers are not happening.....well, they aint happening!!!

BBC N24 use a clock in a way, in that they have the countdown to the TOTH. I doubt whether people watching on DSat or DTT have noticed any great difference in the timing (you would have to be pretty sad to be watching it on both systems at the same time anyway Rolling Eyes )

Interesting article on www.brandrepublic.com/bulletins/media/article/492667/bbc-one-ditch-wheelchair-ethnic-minority-idents-/ suggesting that the BBC ARE infact thinking of reprising the globe image across all its channels......not just BBC1.

I'd contend that much of that article is no more factual than the basis for the starting of this thread.
