Can someone tell me what the best day is to see Midlands Today? Someone told me that Thurdsay was the best option as it had this man that was on it and Nick teased him a bit.

John Yates is always the joke of Midlands Today on Thursday.

Here is a classic quote:
'John Yates will be at the antiques roadshow tomorrow, better make sure he keeps moving during the stock take, else he will be valued.'

Also, when John was there he got Michael Aspel to value a 'Nick Owen Sports Quiz' book, and Michael said 'In its day, worth about 10p, now its worthless' and John replied 'That much!?'

They can have fun when they want to. Smile

Also, on the matter on CSO, one thing that puzzled me about the old Sky News Temp. set. They were using to CSO to put in the 'blue newsroom' but they changed it to a green screen, which meant you could see it was CSO. Strange to change it from blue, was the ideal colour.

Has anyone got a pic of John Yates? Also, are viewer e-mails read out much on Midlands Today?

www.bbc.co.uk/midlandstoday should have reporters picutres somewhere (look in the side menu).

And I've never heard a viewers email being read out. They've never promted the address (if there is one) ever either.

A reason TV companies like blue GFX when they CSO is that if theres any fringing the viewer doesn't notice the artifacts of CSO (if it's a blue CSO that is! Smile )

yeah i reakon its a blue CSO - as joanne used to wear green clothes (never seen blue clothes on a bulletin)

what suprised me though is that its all CSO - even the desk is pretend! as shown below, a pic from an afternoon summary on 12/09/00, somebody pressed the wrong button - and it shows is all fake.  it was mentioned by the ITC how they had a state of the art virtual studio (it is good the way the desk has the reflection etc) and i must admit that to the untrained eye it looks real!

and this is how it looked on screen (pic taken on a different day)

If his tie spins around like airplane propellers, then I could see why Nick makes fun of him. Razz: Very Happy

Kath, you seem to be implying you'll be joining Midlands Today, but I thought you'd be joining East Midlands Today, surely?

Also you seem remarkably un-upset about moving from Look North (Leeds). Won't you miss Stud?
