Presumably this means it will now be presented by either Alan Carr or Jimmy Carr?!

Or Noel Edmonds.

Because the Grand National going to Channel Four was such a ratings success. Right?

The Grand National actually did all right on Channel 4 staying around the same ratings the BBC used to have however it was all the other meetings the BBC showed to high ratings fell down drastically on 4 such as Derby, Royal Ascot etc which is why they are now moving to ITV. I suspect Bake Off especially if they lose Mel, Sue, Paul and Mary may go down as another glorious failure of something that left the BBC and did much worse elsewhere.

Well if it's off to Channel 4, at least it won't drop through the floor standards wise, or at least not as far as it would have fell under ITV anyway. It'll be safe there. Not from ads, but content wise it'll be safe.

Fair enough. But not a good business move.

Remember commercial channels are not entirely focused on raw audience numbers. They're interested in high audiences that advertisers want. So yes, it may well drop figures compared to being on the BBC, but if it brings new viewers to C4, or more viewers than C4 are currently getting in the slot, especially of the types that the advertisers will pay a premium for getting their goods in front of, then they'll be happy.

Love Productions themselves will just want as much cash as they can get away with charging. And if they can get more than the BBC were offering, it'll be a positive business move for them, regardless of how many people actually tune in.

Worth pointing out that the format change has meant the meetings that were already on C4 have also seen significant declines in audiences.

It could come back to bite them, I can't imagine the BBC would be particularly interested in commissioning any further programmes from them so a lot of business potentially wiped out.

Part of me wonders if this is C4 stocking up for a privatised future. It'll bring in the ratings but there's nothing distinctively Channel 4 about it, it feels like an odd buy for me.

If I was the boss behind Master chief I be pitching Master Baker first thing tomorrow. If they can get Mary, Paul, Mel and Sue then it's a win win. Or the BBC can just launch Strictly Baking.

In all seriousness I wonder how far the BBC could go to make a show like GBBO with out getting into trouble? Do they own anything?
