I'm staying in the tent with the bakers where I belong. I want to thank Mary. I'll miss her but she has made the right decision for her.

Yes I can't really blame him. Also I think it makes things far easier for the BBC to create a similar baking related programme with just Mel, Sue and Mary. A wholesale rip off with the whole team could fall foul of passing off as Bake Off.

Of the four of them, I think Paul was the least likely to succeed away from the Bakeoff format, so it's not surprising he's signed a (presumably lucrative) three year deal.

It appears to be the best solution for all involved, Hollywood moves with the format to Channel 4, continuing the legacy, which gives the other three presenters the opportunity to stay with the Beeb, hopefully with an in-house commission or tendering that doesn't mean an indie will sell to the largest bidder after being nurtured by a PSB.

Worst case scenario, Bake Off dies a death, Hollywood gets kept on for Jamie Oliver-esque baking programmes.

Some of the comments here are mad especially stabbing people in the back, Paul Hollywood was offered more money to do the same job he's been doing for the last 6 years so he took it and you can't blame him for the format moving from the BBC to Channel 4. Fair play to Mary, Mel and Sue for staying loyal to the BBC but that is really an exception to the rule as generally if someone is offered more money to do a job elsewhere they take it.
