Has anyone else noticed the backdrop behind Peter Cockroft on his weather updates on the ten for the past couple of days? It seems to be some sort of building scene, perhaps a view of London? Although it's hard to tell, these usually come from the downstairs area, so it might be a clue. I'm only shamelessly speculating (or hoping!), but it
would
be nice if they had a projection of a London skyline somewhere in the studio!
I do wish they'd decide on whether the LONDON is to be in bold or not. The titles and static screen graphic on the bulletins, as well as the website, show LONDON in standard Gill Sans/Humanist521, but virtually everywhere else I see the logo - the 'screensaver' screen animation and off-screen, offline collateral - LONDON is shown in bold. Bad enough they wasted time and money on this 'transformation' but the way it's been implemented thus far has been a surprisingly accurate reflection of the overall rebrand - utterly half-arsed.
There are some very questionable branding decisions being made at BBC News, with everyone seemingly doing their own thing. This is not inherently disastrous - creating everything from the same restrictive template can produce very bland results - but the problem is we now have a BBC News brand held together only by its logo and the increasingly dubious musical connection. And when you have the National staggering its relaunch over months and months, and the likes of BBC London arsing about with its branding with no obvious clarity of vision, one has to wonder what the masterplan is for BBC News beyond 'sod it, let everyone do whatever the hell they want'.
I'm all for change, and variations between regions, and distinctions between specific branches of News. I just wish these alterations would be better implemented.
If you're still reading this, congratulations - I fell asleep about 5 minutes ago.
God, it's awful. Makes some of Midlands Today's efforts look award winning!
What is this!? A ****e relaunch day for London?
Sadly I have to agree, I really liked the old style M/Today, with the proper desk, not the coffee table, and now the set looks like barbie's been to decorate- its plastic fantastic.
