I think that since Elstree have played in their own ident they've only had the one ident (I think it comes off tape) .. before pres could play in ident with the 'South East' keyed on the top.
I presume that once they move into central London they will have the kit to play a variety of BBC London idents??

Yep - Elstree have had to play in their own idents since UK Today became the network sustaining feed on both analogue and digital Networks. Before then Elstree was sustaining on analogue with UK Today sustaining digital. This happened when the English regions started being able to opt-out on Digital Terrestrial (and the same thing had to be on both networks. I think this was about a year ago - and roughly the same time that UK Today stopped being a simulcast of News 24)
Before then analogue BBC One presentation at TVC used to provide the symbol and announcement before Newsroom South East from Elstree (and London Plus / South East at Six from Lime Grove before it come to think of it)
The fact that the BBC London ident went out across the whole of the South East could mean one of two things:
One - Marylebone High St are testing their ability to opt-out of Crystal Palace - but the transmission path for the opt-switch they are using still includes all the South East transmitters - so the London Clock also goes out in Kent... (This could indicate that Marylebone High St will use the current Elstree opt-switch - which is actually in TVC...)
Two - Newsroom South East are playing out a BBC London Clock from Elstree for some reason?
As for ident playout...
Now Elstree are working in the same way as most other English regions - they do play in their own 'South East' 1/6/10 Clocks and Symbols. These are played in from Beta SP in Elstree I believe (the dropout can be visible at times) - as they used not to do their own presentation they did not get a laser disc player and ident disc like the other English Regions in the early 90s.
(Most regions chose a limited number of BBC One/Two idents to burn onto their discs to allow space for them to burn on opening and closing titles as well! The Laser players have been removed from service in most regions now I believe - and replaced with a VERA disk recorder/player in VT based regions. Non tape regions - Nottingham, Bristol, So'ton, Glasgow? - using server playout are able to use server channels for this, as they re-cue quicker than VT, and don't drop out...)

Yup --- The clock is played in from our solid state 'Profile' system in Bristol ... At least it's not from Beta, so it doesn't wobble 
and if someone forgets to press play they've got a few more chances to start it on time

Sorry, I don't think I had the VCR going at the time.
