According to http://www.waveguide.co.uk BBC London Live 94.9 FM may change its name to plain BBC London, and the replacement for Newsroom South East will be called BBC London, not London Live.
That can't be right, surely, you can't call a programme BBC London? Or can you?
That's crazy! So what will the titles say, just 'London'? Why not 'London Today'? Not very inventive perhaps, but better that just 'BBC London'.
'This is BBC One in London. Now BBC London, with ... ' - just doesn't sound right.

London Today - already exists?! LNN use it on Carlton/LWT don't they?!
I should expect that the news programme will NOT be called BBC London and will have a name, whether it be London Live, Newsroom London or something else - I think the article implies that the existing branding used for the radio station and website will be changed so that it fits in more with the new TV service and possibly the other English regions.

Also - did anyone else know that Emily Maitlis has left Sky News to be the sole anchor of the 6.30pm edition of BBC London's regional news programme when it launches?

The great Cornholio
yes Dave, news of Emily's departure came out about 3 weeks ago.
A friend of mine tells me her resignation came just as she was about to replace
Natasia Kaplinsky as the main breakfast presenter on Sky News.
Also I'm told, there is to be a complete shake-up of the presenter line-up on
Sky News. Not necessarily any new faces, but new pairings and a shuffle of
who we see at particular times of the day.
All this will happen when Sky News launches its new image next month.
ALSO I'm told that BBC News 24 Interactive now has a launch date, set for some time
in October.

I think it actually did used to say on the Newsroom South East website that its replacement would be called London Live.
Having read the Guardian article, it doesn't explicitly state that the new programme would be called 'BBC London'; perhaps Waveguide isinterpreted it. As already mentioned, 'BBC London' is a ridiculous name for a programme.
I think they should just go back to London Plus myself.
From what I understood from the Guardian article, it looks worryingly like the BBC have had their minds made up for a while that the new show will be called 'BBC London', as the spokesman says that this would 'take over from Newsroom South-East' or something - I can't see any other way of interpreting it! Stupid name, though - London Live is a great name for both the news programme and the radio station, but it looks like they're trying to get away from the London Live name rather than extend it.
Looks like the creative talent in the BBC name department is at an all-time low!
Oh, and what was that about Emily Maitlis due to take over from Natasha Kaplinksy? I presume this had something to do with what you said about new presenter pairings, and not that she's leaving...! I wonder if Kay Burley will be moving back to Sunrise, with Natasha taking over in the early evening slot? Or maybe she'll get something more high-profile like 9 o'clock news or news at ten...

When you take into consideration the fact that all generic look regional logos have (B)(B)(C)NEWS at the bottom of the screen, if the programme title were 'BBC London' then 'BBC' would be mentioned TWICE on screen! (Either that or in order to avoid this, the title would simply appear as 'LONDON' - which would be really stupid)
The presence of (B)(B)(C)NEWS at the bottom of the screen also makes use of the word 'News' in the title unfavorable. This is reflected in the fact that the South West's shorter bulletins stopped adding 'News' after 'Spotlight' when they went generic. And also the title 'Newsroom South East' won't be used by Tunbridge Wells, but 'South East Today' instead - once again eliminating on-screen repetition of the word 'News'.

Oops, forgot London Today was used by Carlton/LWT! Any other suggestions as to what the new 'BBC London' programme should be called?
