Would the non-spare capacity be carrying the video/audio from the Spotlight Channel Islands studio in Jersey back to Plymouth?
the BBC have a stand at a political conference?? I hope they have one at *all* political party conferences in that case?
They do have a stand at all political conferences, The World at One and PM usually originate from them I think.
Incidentally, not worth a thread of its own I don't think, but the Tories are kicking up a bit of a fuss about the timing of the Hartlepool by-election. It has been set for 30 September, which is the last day of the Labour Party Conference, which will result in a lot more exposure on the BBC and other broadcasters for Labour than other parties. Under the various Representation of the People Acts, the BBC and other broadcasters are obliged to provide fair and impartial coverage of the poll, and obviously the timing of the by-election and the Labour Party Conference makes that very difficult indeed, so the Tories want far more airtime than they would normally get during their opposition's conference to balance it out.
The BBC does indeed have a stand at all three conferences.
The theme this year is charter renewal, as you might expect.
They've got three big plasmas showing News 24 and BBC Parliament
There is a touch screen interactive display with access to the local radio streaming service, but of course the stations not yet live just give an error message.
As I type, there are technical rehearsals going on in the Tregonwell Hall for the Daily Politics coverage from Bournemouth this week.
