ARGH! Hello! I know the cost. IT IS LOW!

Fine, how about not spending the cost and knocking a few quid off the licence fee?

What is it that makes me think you don't actually pay for a licence fee?

How much do you think it would save on the licence fee? 10p? £1? £10.50? I think the first option is probably the nearest, and I think I'd prefer to be able to listen to radio stations I pay for online than to save a few pence on my licence fee, thank you very much.

Oh for God's sake - if you're going to be like that I see little point in me, in good faith, contributing to this thread.

You've made your point that you personally think it's a bad idea.

I disagree, and am confident I'll be telling you in a year's time how the majority of users - as with the Radio Player - are based in the UK.

May I agree with "I really hate channel 3 Mendip"? - Given the existence of existing networks, the marginal cost of doing this has to be pretty low, even by local radio standards. Is the plan that this will all be streamed using Real Player?

The general response to this seems to be have been positive, but many say that to put local radio on DTT/D-SAT would be too expensive. Given the amount of the BBC digital bandwidth, both leased from Energis and on Astra, I'd presume that even putting all of BBC LR onto D-SAT is going to be well within a realistic cost.

To put LR onto DTT would arguably be much more of a logistical struggle as you'd get some SIPs with multiple LR mappings. I'm convinced though of the case for BBC Local Radio being on DTT, with an MHEG application displaying live data grabbed from Radioman and the www authoring process.

Thnks and rgds.

Putting BBC LR onto digital television is a logistical nightmare and simply will not happen in the near future. In addition to the sports rights problem already mentioned, there would be a lot of problems getting each and every BBC LR station rerouted to London for transmission. And it's more hassle than it's worth - the logistical problems far outweigh any benefits (and there aren't that many) of putting BBC Local Radio stations on to the television.

What bitrate will these be streamed at?

Don't know, but I can't think they'll do anything that differs from the national networks.

For God's sake - what is the point in throwing insults like this??

Are you just trolling here for the sake of it, or do you have a point to make???

So you have stopped paying it then? If not, then did you mean:

"I have been paying the licence fee myself for at least five years"

Bloodmakesnoise, what would you like?

A lower licence fee (and thus fewer services)?
A subscription-based service?
An advertisement-supported service?
The abolition of the BBC?
