On my Broadcast Now newsletter I get e-mailed to me, I noticed that it reported that all the BBC local radio stations are to be streamed on the Internet, so that people can listen to them as they use their computers. Has anyone else heard this, and will any of you use this facility?

If it happens, the first programme I'll listen to is 'Peter Levy Requests' on BBC Radio Leeds. I am SO predictable aren't I?

Yes indeedy, this has been mentioned here already. It's been confirmed by an official press release from the BBC.

Should be a great feature and very popular. It will be phased apparently, I suppose similar to the Where I Live websites and the news bulletins introduced on those sites.

And if you mention anything like Peter Levy again Katherine, I may have to suffocate you.

Would a Harry Potter-esque reference like 'You Know Who' be better for you? To be fair, you have had over 40 days without any references to You Know Who.....

I don't know if most people know this already but is BBC Radio Leicester the only BBC local which currently has a listen again player like the national stations do? Interesting that AFAIK no other local BBC stations have this facility

<prays> Please let BBC Devon be one of the first stations to stream online! Let Devon have something first for once!

Certainly not as comprehensive as BBC Radio Leciester, perhaps it's a tryout or pilot of some kind? But then again, certain BBC LR stations can't update their news bulletins properly... let alone manage a Listen Again feature!

BBC London 94.9 have one - but then again, they are the odd one out really and already have live streaming as well. A couple of stations have a little Media Console thing, such as Radio Devon, but these are hardly of Listen Again quality.

I've not found out the roll out schedule for this yet, but once I do, I'll let you guys know. I had pleaded for Bristol to be one of the first (we've been moaning loudest about lack of streaming for many years), but who knows if they'll listen to us!

Are there any prospects for getting Points West streamed? Currently it is one of only two regional programmes not available on-line, North West Tonight being the other exception. I heard i was something about sporting rights but how do the other regions manage?

Rob.

Maybe - the local radio streaming would free up some computer space currently used by the on-demand radio stuff. We don't want to do it unless it's reliable.

Any chance of it ever happening on DSAT to anyone's knowledge?

And do BBC have to pay extra PRS fees for the music now they're all going to be streamed, or is the cost fairly marginal?

Thanks,
William

I think I'm right in saying that you a licensed broadcaster which pays PRS for its FM/AM transmissions can stream without paying additional PRS fees. Sporting rights are another matter though
