Really? Why do you say that? Bespoke made the package in 2000, and Wiltshire Sound "split" in 2003. It doesn't take three years to split frequencies - it's still the same station, albeit with a different output depending on what time of day and where you are. And since the only change to identification was the voiceover saying a different station name...

The package has been updated since 2000. There is now a large selection of sung IDs from Bespoke, with the station names sung in a similar way to the Radio 2 tune (imagine "Swindon" or "Wiltshire" instead of the "2" and that's pretty much what they sound like).

Still got the fake pips, though! Hehe!

Nope Wink

They've dropped them - oh no! I've not listened for a little while ... Despite having been IN the building in the last six months! Shows how much attention I pay, doesn't it?

Maybe, but the Salisbury opt hadn't been working for quite some time (see the listening figures for Spire about that time).

The move to at least shift the opt to Swindon & Wiltshire instead of Salisbury & Wiltshire had been on their minds for quite some time.

It might not have been 2000 - so if you want to be pedantic, I would imagine the jingles came before the idea for the shifted split - but it wouldn't have been long after.

My point, though, was the station's name has changed now - not that which incarnation of the station they were made for ...

...Right... OK...

The jingles were created for BBC Wiltshire Sound then.

Anyway...

Oh don't be so pedantic ... my point was that the station is no longer called that, not what it was called then.

My God DAS, you're turning into a worse troll than I usually am!!! Calm down man!

Which reminds me, I'm wholly gutted Corin hasn't sent me a note about last night's exchange between Nick and I about how much of a crackpot he is.

I feel left out. Nick - you got anything?

What the hell are you on about? You're the one that picked up on a perfectly correct statement and went on about Sailsbury opts and Spire FM. Then tell me I'm being pedantic when you've just spewed a load of irrelevance. Yes, I know Wiltshire Sound now has two names - but I didn't intend to make that point anyway! So stop twisting it around yourself for goodness sake.

I had heard about this, but have yet to hear any. Do they sing "Wiltshire" that quickly then?! Are they just singovers of the original instrumentals?

Why? It's wound you up, hasn't it? Kept you amused for a moment. Job done.

Cheer up you old git.

Well, all being well, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference!

Annoyingly, where I live I can only get the station in my car ... just outside of the range of Naish Hill. I'll have a listen on the on-demand bullies tomorrow, if I remember.

Mind you, the streaming will be up and running shortly ... Ironically, while we're on the subject, Somerset Sound will have its best quality feed to the public via the web!

The thread seems to have become a wee bit general so I've renamed it.

Does anyone know why Radio York is advertised on Look North (NE&C) bulletins yet is not one of the stations joining up with Cleveland, Cumbria and Newcastle?

Because even though Radio York isn't in that North East region to join up with, it is still listenable in the Look North region. So it manages to get a bit of television promotion in the north east.

They've been around for quite a while, and are played all the time. They don't sing the "Wiltshire" bit that quickly - it's just the "BBC Radio..." part that sounds like Radio 2.

Not sure whether they're singovers - the presenter IDs (normally after the news) and some others (which are sung to a different tune) might well be, but I suspect the Radio 2-ish ones are totally new cuts.

Hadn't thought about that but, yes, I guess you're right! I wouldn't be surprised if Somerset Sound was to benefit from the new plans that were announced yesterday, though, so I doubt they'll be AM-only for long.

A lot of the digital plans are dependant on the commericial local MUXs starting, though ...

I've just noticed an edit of the Newcastle TOTH has FINALLY replaced the old Cleveland, Cumbria and Newcastle News sting (weekday evenings from 7) - which has been in use for at least 7 years. Strange that it doesn't have any corporate element (Cleveland and Cumbria share the same package).

I already miss the booming "THIS IS THE NEWS, FROM THE B - B - C" though.

The NE&C Northern Nights programme sting is still corporate though - complete with the voiceover by Miss Malaria.

I am enjoying people trying to put the standard local radio sting into words, it's quite funny Twisted Evil

We can play "guess the local radio jingle"! How about this one: "de de dum de de de de do do de de dum ... doo dee dee doooo ahhhhhhhhhh-ahhhhhh deee dum de doooo de-de-de-de-de DUM .... deee deeee dee do do, da dee dum"

My translation of 'der der der der DER DER DER' is better illustrated by these:

As mentioned earlier, 3 Counties uses a former TalkSport jingle package, well Radio Solent uses LBC's 1980's theme tune:
