Well, which SOME are you talking about then? Radio Nottingham, Radio Newcastle, Radio Kent and Radio Devon had their own arrangements; Jersey did not. I can't think of any others that used it! You also said it was created for Nottingham - it wasn't, it was a generic adapted for any station that wanted it.

Now, now DAS, no need to get all confrontational Wink

To be fair, I am taking the word of someone else here from when I worked at Radio Nottingham, I thought they'd be a pretty reliable source of information there, don't you see....

You want confrontation, I'll give you confrontation! Wink

I just don't see what's at issue... BBC Creative Services created it as a generic instrumental package that could be adapted for any station that wanted it. It's all generic apart from that end sing which is changed according to the station name. Nottingham, Kent, Devon and Newcastle all aired it at around about the same time.

That'll be the BBC Wiltshire Sound package created specially for, well, BBC Wiltshire Sound by Bespoke Music.

That's what I like about BBC Local packages - they may be different, but they're still similar. Even BBC Solent's ex-LBC package sounds BBC Local-ish thanks to all those blings and blangs and chimey bits.

Nope. It was created for BBC Wiltshire Sound well before it decided to become two "stations".

They'd already made the decision to split by the time the jingles were introduced.

Really? Why do you say that? Bespoke made the package in 2000, and Wiltshire Sound "split" in 2003. It doesn't take three years to split frequencies - it's still the same station, albeit with a different output depending on what time of day and where you are. And since the only change to identification was the voiceover saying a different station name...

Maybe, but the Salisbury opt hadn't been working for quite some time (see the listening figures for Spire about that time).

The move to at least shift the opt to Swindon & Wiltshire instead of Salisbury & Wiltshire had been on their minds for quite some time.

It might not have been 2000 - so if you want to be pedantic, I would imagine the jingles came before the idea for the shifted split - but it wouldn't have been long after.

My point, though, was the station's name has changed now - not that which incarnation of the station they were made for ...

...Right... OK...

The jingles were created for BBC Wiltshire Sound then.

Anyway...

The package has been updated since 2000. There is now a large selection of sung IDs from Bespoke, with the station names sung in a similar way to the Radio 2 tune (imagine "Swindon" or "Wiltshire" instead of the "2" and that's pretty much what they sound like).

Oh don't be so pedantic ... my point was that the station is no longer called that, not what it was called then.

My God DAS, you're turning into a worse troll than I usually am!!! Calm down man!

Which reminds me, I'm wholly gutted Corin hasn't sent me a note about last night's exchange between Nick and I about how much of a crackpot he is.

I feel left out. Nick - you got anything?
