The BBC has begun recruiting for a number of Salford-based creatives to work for its new in-house agency.

BBC Creative, a rival to the likes of 4Creative and the corporation’s first department of its kind, launched earlier this year and will take responsibility for the majority of the broadcaster’s marketing campaigns.

It will replace the role previously performed by Red Bee Media, which had a decade-long exclusive production deal with the BBC until 2015. It’s also expected to deliver savings of around £1.3m a year.

Under the direction of Justin Bairamian and former Adam & Eve/DDB creative directors Aidan McClure and Laurent Simon – who joined in March – it is now building a team to be based across London and Salford.

The BBC is now looking for Creatives, Designers and a Production Traffic Manager to work predominantly on BBC Sport and CBBC/CBeebies campaigns in Salford.

BBC Creative director Bairamian recently told Campaign that the new in-house agency would be “very ambitious”.

He said: “People should be able to come to the BBC and do their best work – that’s the bottom line – partly because the BBC deserves it as a public-service broadcaster. We should be really ambitious.”

BBC Creative has recently worked on the trailer campaign for its Attenborough at 90 programmes:

The articles says they've already worked on trailer campaigns… I wonder if they could be involved with possible future channel idents or even rebrands?

I wonder whether they were also responsible for the current BBC Three logo.

If this means the BBC can re-fresh its on-screen image/branding, without invoking the ire of the Daily Mail for spending money with outside agencies, then I am all for it. But if it is going to be ambitious, it cant be restricted to the Salford produced output, but must extend to all BBC output

The idents are definitely Red Bee's, but I'm not sure about the logo itself.

Let's hope they start looking at rebranding BBC One soon. Amazing to think that the Circle idents have now been running for almost 10 years!

As much as I want to see it, I'll eat my hat if it happens.

If what happened to one particular Lib Dem the last time that statement was made is any indication, BBC One relaunch soon then! Very Happy

AIUI this is the result of the BBC not renewing their deal with Ericsson (formerly Red Bee) for trail production, after deciding to bring it back in-house.

Well, I prefer that style of trailer than the all red screen we still sometimes get. Programme menus and other presentation for BBC ONE should also switch to this style and they should phase out the reliance on red endboards altogether.

If they rebrand BBC ONE, I would love it if they brought back the 1 symbol like in the 90's to match the 2 of BBC TWO (maybe not the same exact logo but something similar). The looks and feels of BBC ONE & TWO should compliment one another and retain a bit of similarity, the current style of both channels is so far apart it looks a mess. They could even incorporate how FOUR looks into it as well and all channels share a similar style for trailers, logo placement, font etc.

Red Bee is still the brand name of the creative agency.
